Title: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: hoover on February 13, 2004, 05:24:05 PM movie is x-men2 united
Was hoping I could make this in 2 cdr\'s in 2 shrinks. I was at 1900 after the second shrink so I\'m sure if even 3 shrinks will work; still working on it. Took out everything but 5.1 sound. Hoping I can chop the beginning and end to get down to two cdr\'s but it doesn\'t look like I\'m going to be able two. Followed directions. Any advice on getting down to 2 cdr\'s since you said you have done many that way. Thanks. Mike Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: afonic on February 13, 2004, 05:28:31 PM Unfortunately some DVDs may need even 4 or 5 Shrinks, because of their compression type.
Most of them will work with just 3 shrinks but sometimes you have to spend some more time! Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: hoover on February 13, 2004, 05:43:33 PM Afonic,
In the old forum you said you had shrunk many dvd\'s down to two cdr\'s. Am I to assume these are older dvd\'s; the single layer 4.7\'s? The x2 movie am trying right now is a double layer dvd so is the reason it\'s taking more than 2 shrinks? Thanks Mike Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: hoover on February 13, 2004, 06:19:10 PM Afonic,
Also, is there much difference in video quality between 3 shrinks(or 4) on 2 cdr\'s and 2 shrinks on 3 cdr\'s. Thanks. Mike Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: afonic on February 13, 2004, 06:39:29 PM Well first of all the quality between 2 and 3 cds is different, with the 3 cds having much better quality.
Now about the number of the shrinks, most movies need 3 of them, even the dual layer ones. Some of them that use a very high bitrate for the movie need even more but this should not happen at least at the 80% of the movies. Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: hoover on February 13, 2004, 06:52:15 PM well i\'m on my 4th shrink which will take me to 1415 in x-men 2. Guess this is one of them hi bit rate movies. Does\' hi graphic movies make the difference in bit rate? Sorry about all the questions, just new to all this.
Hopefully I\'ll will get a dvd burner this spring but I don\'t think my player supports dvd-r since it doesn\'t say so in the manual. Sigh. Well I guess 2 shrinks on 3 cdr\'s(1900) is doable and probably good quality. Thanks for all the help. Mike Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: afonic on February 13, 2004, 07:03:43 PM Probably 3 CDs are the best choice.
You can have a look at http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers to see if your player supports DVD-R, sometimes the manuals are old and say nothing but the players support DVD-R media. Good luck! Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: hoover on February 13, 2004, 07:07:21 PM Dang it you posted before I could get another question in! LOL!
Anyways would there be that much difference in quality if I started all over and on the second shrink make it just under 2100 if using 3 cds\' instead of the 1900 I\'m at right now? Thanks again for your time. Mike Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: afonic on February 13, 2004, 07:10:50 PM You\'re welcome.
Using a 3rd cd will have a great affect in quality, you rise the available space by 1/3, so the quality will rise by 1/3! Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: hoover on February 13, 2004, 07:26:02 PM Man your fast! Kudo\'s. Feeling a little embarrased with all the questions now. I think I only have two more.
What I was asking earlier; I\'m going to use 3 cdr\'s regardless. Right now after the second shrink it is at 1900. Would the quality improve if I redo it and and make it were it finishes at just under 2100 after 2 shrinks instead of staying with the 1900 version ? Now that I think about it(3rd ?) in the miniDVD guide, it said after the 3rd shrink you notice a Start/End button. Well i haven\'t seen that at all. I\'m using 3.1 I think and the manual is 3.05(I think). We\'re in the world is the start/end button. Last question. Is miniDVD selection (on burning software or dvd player) different than shrinking to a cdr (cdr compatibility)as far as compatibility on your player? Meaning if it supports cdr it will play the shrunk movie even if it doesn\' mention support for a miniDVD. Promise no more questions tonight. Thanks for all the help. Mike Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: hoover on February 13, 2004, 10:54:54 PM Well I found the start/end. Guess i had to hit re-author again. Thanks for your time.
Mike Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: afonic on February 14, 2004, 03:27:00 AM If you are not bored I suggest you shrink them again to 2100MBs.
Now about miniDVD support, I think you have t try. It may play them but it may not. I have a new Pioneer player which does not play them and a cheap DMTECH OK that has no problem. If it is not supporting miniDVDs, I\'d suggest SVCD or VCD. Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: hoover on February 14, 2004, 10:22:58 AM Thanks afonic.

Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: hoover on February 14, 2004, 12:13:23 PM afonic,
this is probably splitting hairs but in the manual it says to split the movie exactly in half, and then make sure it fits under 700Mb, or the quality will defer. Well I split the movie up 3 ways all at 699mb. Two of the disks differ by about 40 seconds while the first disk is about 4 minutes shorter. Can I not just concentrate on splitting the movies exactly acording to Mb (easier) or should the time of the movie be the deciding factor. I know I\'m cutting hairs but I think I about got it all figured out. Thanks. Mike Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: afonic on February 14, 2004, 12:25:23 PM Just split them by size and do not care about video length!
Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: hoover on February 14, 2004, 04:32:22 PM afonix or anyone,
do you know a freeware burning program that will do miniDvDs\'. Mine doesn\'t seem to want to to it. My nephew has an older version of nero on his computer. Will that work or does it have to be nero ultra 6? Thanks. Mike Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: afonic on February 14, 2004, 04:38:44 PM Nero is the burning prog you need for Mp3, there is no freeware one.
From what I can remember Nero 5 must also be able to burn miniDVDs, just ask, it should be in the menu. Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: hoover on February 14, 2004, 05:47:38 PM unfortunately my old burner that came with my computer doesn\'t support nero. It came with Roxio
I don\'t guess any roxio software will handle miniDVD? Soon as I save up I\'m going to get the lite-on combo dvd/cdr burner. Can\'t wait. Mike Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: hoover on February 14, 2004, 09:41:17 PM well dang my old philips burner is compatible after all(didn\'t know it was a philips till I pulled it) and have nero ultra 6 running.
If only it made sence. Thanks for all the help afonic. Mike Title: Re: well i'm trying my first miniDVD and on my 3rd shrink Post by: afonic on February 15, 2004, 12:00:47 PM You\'re welcome Mike, see ya around!
