Title: DVD shrink disk playback problem Post by: adam_6_7 on December 17, 2004, 07:55:28 PM I have burnt a number of backup disks using DVDshrink (also tried Nero as the burner) with good results 2/3 of the time. However, 1/3 of disks fail on playback on a standalone dvd player (i\'ve tried them on a couple of different brands including a new one). The failure generally occurs to the end of the movie with intermitent freezes and jerks until it compounds through the remaining movie when it freezes completely and the player rejects the disk totally. Currently I\'m using TDK dvd+r and dvd+rw media with problems with both (i\'ve checked the forum and this seems to be a reccommended brand - and also the cheapest 8x i can find - i live in Aus) and an LG 12x burner. Burn speed doesn\'t seem to matter, and the problem does not seem to lie in encoding as the same file with burn fine on the next attempt, and the disks are properly cleaned.
Any tips would be much appreciated so I can stop wasting disks and time. Cheers BTW: system - P4 3.2 Prescot, WinXP, 512 DDR ram, LG 16xDVD-ROM, LG 12X DVD+RW burner Title: Re:DVD shrink disk playback problem Post by: afonic on December 17, 2004, 09:42:56 PM Hi there,
some possible solutions are to give DVD-R a try (not only DVD+R). Use TDKs for DVD-Rs too, they are rock solid. If this doesn\'t work, update your motherboard\'s drivers, especially if it\'s an nVidia nForce2. ;) Title: Re:DVD shrink disk playback problem Post by: cavey on December 17, 2004, 10:59:21 PM Just wondering about your LG DVD+RW burner.. Can you fill me in with your model ? i believe all LG DVD burners are multi format meaning you can burn -R / -RW too.. but anyway it is safer to see if it it only supports DVD+R/+RW only :)
Also if the DVD+RW is meant to burn at 8x , do not push it to burn at anything higher than that! data may be corrupted. Also go to http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers to check out if your standalone dvd player has problems with any particular brand of disks. the DVD-RAM drive is a LG GSA-4120B I intend to update the firmware soon (it is not the computer from which I have internet access) to see if that will help thanks |
