1  Guides / User Guides / How to Create DVD Slideshow for Playable on TV on: September 20, 2007, 11:39:16 PM
Rather than having piles of photos and videos stored on your computer, you may make a slideshow and share it with your family and friends on TV, computer, DVD player, iPod, Zune, iPhone and other mobile devices. Happiness must be more when you share it with others.
As we know, Movie Maker and Story Photo 3 are both built into Windows, which make it convenient to create a photo/video slideshow, but that is not enough to share our life’s events with more people who are far from us on a special occasion. Why not create DVD slideshow for playable on TV? I use DVD Slideshow Builder, which is easy to use for beginner. This is a tutorial only for reference.
Step1. Click button “Slideshow”, add photo/video to “Story Board”. If you want to create more slideshow, just click button “New” (The maximum of slideshows can be contained in a project is 32). Click button “Properties” to add blank slide or your favorite picture as background. Look at the top of preview, you can change the picture in 90 angles, edit picture and add animate text caption.

Tip: Right click the thumbnail of the picture, you can set the picture as a thumbnail of menu, also easy to insert/delete media clip and delete motion effects. You can switch it between “Story Board” and “Time Line”, “Tree” and “Thumbnail” to have a different view.
Step2. Double click the thumbnail of the picture. It will pop up a new window for picture editing. You can crop picture, add picture effects, text, frame, mask, clipart and music to single picture.

Now we have a compare between the original picture and worked picture below.

Edit with text, frame, picture effect and clipart to touch up the picture.

Step3. Click the pentacle with the thumbnail. It will slide a window for selecting motion effects. You can set one to single picture and apply to all. If it can’t suit to you, right click the thumbnail to delete the motion effects.

Tip: You can click the nail to fix the slide window. Set time duration in this slide window, or double click the time below the thumbnail to set motion time.
Step4. Double click the thumbnail between two pictures in the story board, and choose your favorite transition effects, 3D transition effects must be cool.

Tip: Set time Duration in the pop up window, or double click the time below the thumbnail of transition effect to set transition time.
Step5. Add music to sound track, and double click the music to edit it with fade in and out. Or right click sound track to add/delete/edit music quickly. Click “Auto Synchronize”, it will cut the music automatically.

Step6. Double Click the thumbnail of the video clip. It will pop up a new window for video editing. You can trim video, edit video music, add video effect and edit frame.

Tip: Click “Edit Video Music”, you can edit your favorite music, or mute the original sound of the video and record your own voice.
Step7. Edit disc menu, you can custom it by yourself, like transform the frames, add texts, choose your favorite picture as background and add background music.

Tip: Double click the one you want to change. There are many built-in menu templates. You can also free download more.
Step8. Preview your slideshow. It will play the menu first. You can click the number to choose the relevant slideshow.

Tip: This program can’t support real time preview. I hope it will improve.
Step9. Burn it to DVDs for playable on TV. It can support 16:9 HD video.

Tip: Before burn it, you have to check your burner and disc if they are compatible. Sometimes it slow down, maybe you put a lot of photos and videos (The maximum of pictures can be contained in a project is 1024), or maybe your interface of driver is PIO, you’d better change it to DMA or SATA.
Step10. Put your DVD on player and watch it on TV.

Some one also ask how to convert home video to computer,so I quote these words of one friend on line:
The specific answer will depend upon the format your home movies are in. If they are "film" home videos, then you will need to project them and re-record them onto video.
If they are VHS or some format like 8mm or Hi-8, you'll need to play the tape back through a capture card or USB capture device which will digitize the signal and put it onto your hard drive.
If they are miniDV videos, Digital 8, or newer formats, then your camcorder should have a firewire output, sometimes called iLink (by Sony). You will need a firewire card or input on your computer, and you simply plug the camcorder into the computer via a firewire cable.
At that point, it will then depend upon the software on the computer. Both Windows XP/Vista and Mac have built in programs to import video from firewire, and from there, you can do some simple editing and then output it back to a DVD, if you have a DVD burner.
