Ok so I paid through Paypal for the version 2.6. I have sent e-mails to ump and Alfonic requesting that the link to 2.8 update be sent to my e-mail.

Looking at Alfonic's log in, I see that he has not been online really since 2007. So l do not know who to turn to now to get my link Does anyone here know who I have to address myself to get the update link?

I have loved working with this product and would like to have the new benefits for it.

Thank you

Afonic

I have sent out 3 e-mails as well to say that I had not received my update link to 2.8. I even sent one to Afonic@hotmail.com for you which included all the info that you requested to prove that I paid for 2.6.

I am still waiting for the link to be sent to me for 2.8.

I would really appreciate receiving it as soon as possible.

Thank you

Was read through the forum and did as is requested on this thread. I sent an E-mail last night including the original e-mail that I received after the contribution was made as well as the paypal statement to prove that I paid for FairUse 2.6.

I still have not received a new e-mail with the link to upgrade to fairuse 2.8.

It is the weekend so I will wait a little longer to see if someone sends it to me in the beginning of the week.

Just letting the powers that be know that I have not received my link yet.

After multiple attepts at different codecs and changes to the WMP nothing is fixed. As I start my avi with Nero 7 ( which I own legit ) then no pricture still with just WMP. So I give up.

It is unfortunate that no one supports this thread or program anymore.

I am looking for an alternative now. I seem to have found a good program. I have it in the version at the moment.

Still using fair use for below 700 MB files. I still love this program, just wish that people would support it.  Cry

Converting television episodes from DVD seems to work fine I am more then half way through converting a series at the moment. So Faire use is still useful to a point.

So long and thanks for all the fish !!!!!

So here we are 3:55 PM a few hours have gone by since I changed the VOB pack in the Fair Use program file. Unfortunatly it did not solve the problem. The only codec that works is the VLC player.

WMP11 only plays audio. I did one thing though and that is that I did not restart the PC after I added the new codec pack. Tonight I will retry a third time to get this going without using VLC player.

Keep you informed as I go as always...

I see more people are looking at this thread but no one is posting... Anyone else have anything else to say about this?

trying my darnedest to get this resolved step by step..

But from whatI can tell the problem thus far without  the program crashing like it does on the full edition is that the codec pack seems very screwy.

So I changed the VOB codes pack as suggested in another forum and I am retrying to rip the movie from last night.

As mentioned above the VLC player plays both audio and Video

While WMP 11 only plays audio. it does not find the video codec.

Will get bck to you with more info later once the rip is done.

Sucess to a point   Huh Well fair Use 2.6 made its way through all the conversion process without a hitch. I watched a little of what I had ripped and the picture looks fine for a 700MB file. As mentioned above I prefer 1400 MB and 2 pases on the video.

So this morning I played the file and it oppened with VLC player. Now we all know that VLC have a great number of codecs in it already. Hence no issues playing the file. But when I came to play with WMP 11 which is my prefered methode to watch movies in... It hung on Accuiring codec.

So no way to play th file using WMP.

I will try the patched suggested by someone else on this forum. They suggested to change the VOB codec pack in the Fair Use program section.

Will see if this does the trick for the LE version

So an update on the progress since I installed the LE version of Fair Use 2.6.

I started to convert a DVD on my laptop and since it is a few years old this is a lengthy process. but I am happy to report that as of yet I have managed to build the chaine without any issues  Smiley

I have encode the first audio track without any issues   Smiley

I have run through the first video encoding and it is still doing its thing thus far.   Grin

There is still 50 more minutes to go for the final video encoding as I put my task bar to Quality.

I hope to have news of success for tomorrow.

Then comes the real test when I confirm the link that I got and see if it will piggy back on the LE version without a hitch...That will be another test to follow.

Ok so today I decided to go on the web and try and find an alternative that was as easy to use as Fair Use with the features that it holds. Well I found a few nice programs all that need to be purchased and then God knows if there will be support for them after the fact like we are facing at the moment with FairUse 2.6... Angry

So after trying about 7 trial versions I was not satisfied with any programs that I found.

So I decided to take fair use 2.6 completly off my PC... Cleaned the regiestry the works.

Then I re-downloaded fair use 2.6 from the web site. Now I only downloaded the LE ( lite ) edition to see if it would work. I managed to get through building the chain without a problem... Cheesy and then I went through the options section... Of course I could not make a 1400 MB file like I wished to do. So I stayed with 700Mb...

The program started to build the video chain and I had to stop it as I was leaving work. So tonight I will retry this and see where the Le edition gets me.

Personally I would find it pretty bad if the LE edition works perfectly and that the version that we donated too is usless for the most part. ( keeps crashing or just stalls in mid ripping )  Angry

PS ... An added note from one of my earlier posts... When I had tried to deleat and re-install the first time it was from the link that was sent to me ( I.E. the full version of the program ) not the LE verion that I just re-installed.

Well last night for the first time in a very long trial and error I managed to get Fair Use to rip a DVD successfully. About 30 minutes before going to bed I re-booted the PC and made sure that no other programs started up.

I started to build the chain and then finalised all my options and pressed next. This morning when I woke up the opperation had finished succesfully.

So I tried to do a second DVD this morning and wouldn't you know it I was back to crashing again.

Funny thing is that when I tried to start the second rip, I had not restarted the PC and when the second chain was prompted to be built , the program lagged big time. Instead of taking the usualy 30 minutes to buld a chain it stated that the chain would take 1 hour 10 minutes.

Could there be somehting in a buffer somewhere that takes up tones of memory. Could this be one of the issues with the program. The fact that it does not perge the buffer...

Just a thought.

Well reinstalling Fair use 2.6 did not do th trick. It actually made things worse. While trying to rip something after I had sucesfully installed the program. the PC up and stopped completly and re-booted itself.

So to all the people of thinking of doing this please be advised that it does not work and can cause worse damage then create a solution to our problem.

Took me 6 times trying to boot in safe mode to get my Desk top to run properly. When I finally did I got this mesage...

" the system recovered from a serious error. please inform Microsoft."

So if anyone has options would be good to here them.

Well like many of you I am having issues with the Fair Use 2.6

When I create a chain I am able to get through it without any issue. I get to see like I usually do the screen with the picture where I crop and set my ending credits.

I make it through all the steps for selecting Xvid format and the size of file I want. When I click the next and it starts to build the requested DVD I can make it through 5 minutes worth and sometimes 20 minutes worth of it building then I get the following error.

FairUse EXE. has had a problem would you like to report it to Microsoft. All information in this session will be lost.

Well needless to say that I am not thrilled with this at all. I paid to get the full version of 2.6 (Donated)

Has anyone else had this issue and what has anyone done to solve this issue?

Thanks in advance

Tiamat 26

P.S I just deleated FU off my PC and reinstalled it from the link I originally got Via e-mail. I hope this works. I will keep you apprised of my success or failure...
