10  Guides / User Guides / Get DVD movies on iPod nano, iPod video, iPod classic and iPod touch on: August 24, 2008, 11:38:59 PM
Currently, Apple only provides you with one way to put movies on ipod: The iTunes Store. Using only iTunes means you're stuck paying for movies you may already own. Luckily, Apple doesn't prevent you from putting properly formatted movies on the device, and we know some ways to format them. Grab some popcorn and let's get started.

Step 1: Download Wondershare DVD to iPod Ripper
Download the latest version of Wondershare DVD to iPod Ripper. In order to get DVD movies on iPod, we have to get a DVD ripper software, because DVD's have copyright on them and this tool removes the copyright protection, and then you can rip the DVD movie to iPod mp4 format. then you can get the movies onto ipod nano , iPod video, iPod classic and iPod touch.

Step 2. Load DVD movies

Open Wondershare DVD to ipod ripper, and click Load File. Here we can load three kind of DVD's:
1. Real DVD, just put the DVD in your DVD drive and click Load DVD, ( you can find it by clicking the triangle on the right of 'Load File' button.)
2. DVD ISO image, you can amount your iso files in the daemon tools and then load the virtual DVD drive.
3. A DVD folder, sometimes you may store the DVD folder in your hard drive, it appears like "Video_ts" "audio_ts" folders. You can load it by clicking the "load DVD folders" button.

Step 3. Subtitle, Audio, Output Settings

DVD provides multi languages Subtitle. You can click the drop-down menu to select anyone you want. Select "Audio" is the same. To "Save as", enter the full path or select the path where you want to save your video files by clicking the icon in the right side.

Step 4. Further editing the movie. (Optional)

Movie trimming: If you only want to get a segment of DVD movies onto iPod nano, iPod video, iPod classic and iPod touch, you can trim the movies by setting the start time and end time.
Video Cropping: This feature enables you to crop a defined area on the video to output, you can also use it to cut off the black borders of DVD movies.
Merging titles: You can merge several titles into one single file, even the titles are not consecutive.
There are also some other features that you can apply to your movies, you can find them by yourselves.

Step 5. Get the converted DVD movies onto iPod

Finally, you can upload the mp4 file to iPod nano , iPod video, iPod classic and iPod touch using itunes. If your iPod is an iPod video, you can use the built-in iPod Video Transfer to help you transfer DVD movies.

Here I want to introduce an easy way to collect the classical moments and hot games from the Olympics to share with friends and family.

Some websites provide free download of Youtube videos or other online videos. The following are three of them:

http://www.zamzar.com/

Step1. Take http://vixy.net/ for example, open the website.

Step2. Visit http://www.youtube.com to find your need video, copy the URL (e.g, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAzZxhSKCTk&feature;=related ) from the Address field of your Internet browser, or copy the link from the RED dialog box.

Step3. Paste the link at the URL field of  http://keepvid.com/ after you open this website, select a conversion format from the "Convert to" field, and click OK to start the download and conversion. After it is finished, you will see a link "Download the converted video", click this link and save the final video on your computer.
Note: This is a very easy way to download and convert YouTube movies, but the conversion speed may not be very desirable and you can only download one file at a time. If you want to download multiple files at a time, download the Free YouTube Downloader.

12  Guides / User Guides / How to Optimize DVD Movie on Mac OS X (include Leopard) on: August 15, 2008, 05:04:05 AM
Watching self-made DVDs can be very enjoyable. But the final quality may not be as good as we thought it would be due that the process of making your own DVD might not be very professional. So here comes the question of how to edit a half-prepared DVD movie, say a DVD taken by DVD camcorder, to a high quality DVD.

In fact, this is not complicated. All you need to do is the following two steps:

1. Re-edit your DVD movie on your computer.
2. Burn the optimized DVD movie to a new DVD disc.

My OS is Mac, so everything below is based on Mac OS.

Step 1. Re-edit Your DVD
The moving editing tool that I am using is Wondershare DVD Ripper for Mac]. This software is actually for converting DVD to many players such as iPod, iPhone, Zune, PSP, mobile phones etc…, but it also has very useful DVD editing functions including adjusting video brightness, contrast and saturation, and choosing to apply a special video effect and so forth. Follow the procedures below to edit your DVD movie:

A. Install and Launch Program
Import your DVD movie, preview each title/chapter and decide which title/chapter you want to edit. You can also click the Trim icon to trim a title or chapter to capture the exact part you want to edit. If you want to edit the whole movie, you can just check all the titles or chapters.
B. Click the Crop icon to crop your DVD movie and select the video area of your DVD movie you would like to keep. If you want to keep the whole original area, you can just skip this step.
C. Click the Effect icon and adjust your video contrast, brightness and saturation to the best level you prefer. If you want to use a special effect, you can also select a video effect for your movie.
D. Choose an output format. There are many output formats from the output format drop-down menu, and most of them will work. I usually use the MP4 format because I may also use the converted movie on my iPhone or PSP.
E. After the above settings, you can just select an output format and click the Converter button to convert the optimized DVD movie onto your computer.

Step 2. Burn Optimized Movie to DVD Disc.

This burning tool I use is iDVD. This program offers a great solution to DVD reauthorization. Put the optimized movies under userMovies, and the iDVD program will index them. Then follow the step below:

A. Create Project
When you create a project, you should choose an aspect ratio first, either 16:9 or 4:3. For me, I always choose 4:3 because the aspect ratio of my TV is 4:3.
B. Choose Template
iDVD has many menu templates for your choice. Click the template you prefer and it will be applied.

C. Set Menu Background
Click the Media tab on the lower right part of the interface to switch to the Media window. Drag and drop a movie or a picture to the Drop Zone of the selected menu template as the menu background. If you don't want a background picture or video on your menu, you can skip this step.
D. Add Movies
Click the Add button on the lower left of the interface, select Add Movie, and drag and drop the movies from the lower right pane onto your DVD menu one by one. Each time after you drop a movie, you will see a text box where you can rename the movie. You can also choose to add submenus and add movies to each submenu. If you click the Structure button, you can view the structure of your DVD project and find how many movies you have added.

E. Burn Movies
After you finished adding movies to your DVD project, you can click the Play button to preview your DVD project and see what it will be like on your TV. If the preview is satisfactory, you can just click the File menu on the top of your screen, and select "Burn DVD" to start burning your DVD movie!

After the above two steps, you will get a highly optimized DVD movie out of the original DVD movies.

13  Guides / User Guides / How to create your own DVD by Windows Movie Maker & DVD Maker on: May 28, 2008, 05:06:26 AM
In this article, I will share the free way of creating your own DVDs with your home videos to enjoy
them on DVD players, to backup your favorite movie clips on DVD or to share wonderful videos
downloaded from limewire or YouTube with friends.
All it takes are the following four steps:

Part1. Import video into Windows Movie Maker(WMM)
Video formats supported by WMM are : .avi, .wmv, . asf, . mpg, . m1v, . mp2, . mp2v, . mpeg,
. mpe, . mpv2, and .wm.
If your video formats are not the above formats, you need a Video Converter to convert it to
a supported format first. If you want to get movie clips from your own DVD, DVD Ripper can
help you capture any parts of your DVD movies and convert the captured parts to supported
video formats. In a word, you must make sure that your video formats are supported by WMM.
Then, launch your WMM application, click "import video" under Capture Video in Tasks pane,
and add the video you want to edit.
Note: You can import several files at one time.

Part2. Edit video files
The major five editing functions provided by WMM are: Trim/Split/Combine clips, Add effects,
Add transitions, Add background audio, and Make titles or credits
1.  Trim, split and combine video clips
You can capture your favorite part from a video file using the Trim function (On the timeline, set
the beginning time and click “Clip”->”Trim Beginning, and set the end time and click “Clip”->”Trim
End. Then the part starting from the beginning time and end time will be captured. And you can
split video into smaller, more manageable clips. For instance, when you want to insert a video
transition in the middle of a video clip, you can split the video clip at the point where you want to
insert the video transition and then add the desired transition. Conversely, you can combine
every two contiguous clips, if you need to.

2.  Add effects
You can add any of the video effects that appear in the Video Effects folder in the Collections
pane. A video effect is applied for the entire duration that the video clip displays in your movie. It
allows you to add up to six effects to every video clip.

3.  Add transitions
You can add a transition between two video clips or titles on the storyboard/timeline by dragging
the one you want from the Video Transitions folder in the collections pane. The video transition
length can be adjusted by dragging in the Transition track of the timeline.

4.  Add background audio
You can add background audio by dragging imported audio or a recorded audio narration to
Audio/Music track in timeline model. Some of the different audio-related tasks you can perform
in Windows Movie Maker include adjust the audio levels; add different audio effects; adjust the
volume of audio clips.

5.  Make titles or credits
You can add whatever text you want such as the title of your movie, your name, the date, and so
forth. And you can add a title to various places in your movie: at the beginning or end of a movie,
before or after a clip, or overlaying a clip. The title plays for the specified amount of time by
dragging in video track under timeline view. You can customize the animation of any text to
determine how the text will be displayed.

Part3.  Save movie
There are several ways to publish the edited video. But all needs to save it as a single .wmv
format video file onto your PC at first. The Save Movie Wizard will let you quickly save your
project as a final movie.
Tips: After saving the edited video onto PC, You can convert it to other format video for
your mobile devices by Video Converter, and enjoy it or easily share it with your friends.

Part4.  Burn the edited video to DVD
1. Insert a blank DVD into your DVD burner and launch Windows DVD Maker
If this is the first time to launch Windows DVD Maker, you will be greeted with the initial
welcome screen. Press the "Choose Pictures and Videos" button to go to the main project
window, where you can add the video and picture elements.

2. Add edited video and set DVD-Video options
Click the Add Items button and choose the video you want to burn. You can add several files at
one time and arrange them by clicking Move Up or Move Down button. By clicking Option
button, you can set how your DVD is played, DVD aspect ratio, Video format and temporary file
location.

Note: The video format that is currently selected, NTSC or PAL, is based on the Regional
and Language Option settings in Control Panel. Those in the United States should have NTSC selected.

3. Ready to burn disc
WDM applies various animated DVD menu styles. You can customize DVD menu, including the
font, button style and background audio and video. Slideshow can also be inserted into
contiguous video, when you burn more than one video on single DVD. Before burning the final
disc, you can see a preview to make sure you like how things look.

Windows DVD Maker is applied in premium editions (Home Premium and Ultimate) of Windows
Vista. If you are a user of any other edition, you can download a similar application named
DVD Burner.
Tips: Some video files have black video sides around them. If you want to remove these
black sides, you can crop them off, but WMM does not have the “Crop” function. If this function
is important to you, you can use a professional DVD Burner.
