SVCD is a little better due to it has less compression than vcd. It normally takes 3 discs to make 1 svcd movie and 2 discs to make 1 vcd movie based on a 700mb/80min disc. To the human eye though i see no differance just a waste of an extra disc. I do however see a big differance between a vcd/svcd and Dvdr. Dvdr\'s these days is the way to go seeing how there is little or no compression of the video and thus resulting in better quility video.
Oh and i almost forgot. It take much longer to convert a dvd to vcd/svcd than to just go from dvd to dvd.
