i appoligize if this is not the are to post this...i didn\'t know if i should have posted it in the general thread or not.....umm and i don\'t know if it is a codec problem really....
any way basically what i want to do is brighten the video that i have used dvd shrink to get off my dvd....
there is a brightness thingy in media player classic that seams to work when i watch the .ifo files...but when i try to convert them using xilisoft with a divx codec it goes back to being really dark and then i can\'t even change the darknes when i watch it through mpc. i use the vmr9 thingo when i use ded shrink....but then i have to use the divx codec when i turn the ifo or vob into and avi.....
geeps i hope that makes sense...it does in my mind
anyway so is there a way to change the brightness of the .ifo when i convert it to an avi is basically what i\'m asking....i think....
i appologize if it seams i don\'t know what i\'m talking about...but thats because i don\'t ....

actually i think i\'ve fixed it by using overlay instead of vmr9..and changing my nvidia settings..is there much of a difference?
i haven\'t tested it properly but hopiefully it\'ll work...

Hi,

I hope you do not mean \'the video is very dark\', till you cannot see anything (or you just can see the shadows or outlines of objects)!

Few things you can try. Take the DVD and play it in a normal standalone DVD player, compare it to your current  converted AVI. If it less than 50% darkness, continue on with the next step .. if it is more than 50%, try using another software, perhaps DVDx to convert your DVD to AVI.

If the AVI is less than 50% dark, what u can do is to use virtualdub (freeware), open your AVI in it.... you should see 2 video windows in the program .. left is original right is edited.

In audio tab , make sure direct streaming copy and source audio is selected
In video tab, choose full processing node, then go to filters-> add -> brightness and increase it.. in compression-> choose DIVX and configure the settings to 1 pass , the rest you can leave it or can experiment what happens if you change that etc..

But using this above method, quality maybe reduced...  thus it is better to convert from the source.

ok...yep its not too dark...i know its not the dvd cause it plays fine on my tv....its just the way my comp reads it...cause in the player(ulead) i still have to brighten it a little....but not too much....

i tried changing from vmr9 to overoverlay...and it worked on wmp and real one ect....but as soon as i put the clips into ulead video studio it went back to the original darkness....it isn\'t too dark, i can still see every thing but i would like it lighter...

i will try your suggestion once i figure out how to reverse what i\'ve done with the overlay  Wink  although the quality being reduced would be a bummer...is there anyway do change the brightness from the dvd/cd rom?...i\'ll also try dvdx...although does it have brightness options?...if not then i should probably stick with dvd shrink shouldn\'t i?
thanks for your help...hopefully the virtualdub thing will fix it...
i\'ll get back to you  Smiley

WOW! thats amazing...it worked....one thing i couldn\'t do was change the divx cinfiger thing...my options were divx mpeg4 fast and then low motion....it would let me change the cripness and smoothness....but not the quality bar down the bottom of the window....and for some reason the avi cam out much larger....
i\'ll go look at some other threads for this i think otherwise i\'d go off topic....
cheers
