Getting rid of balck bars, HELP!!

I have some TV shows that were captured in Wide-Screen format. I should note that I did not rip them on my TV. After I author them using Nero 7 and go to play them on my Wide-Screen TV,   I am getting black bars at the top and bottom.  I don't know why this is happening since they were captured in wide-screen.

Can anyone help me to get rid of them?  I am fairly new to this stuff.

I set Nero's aspect ratio to burn them in 16:9 and I tried the automatic setting also. Same results.

When you play the DVD Nero created, does the video look weird, meaning that Nero's black bars made it even more narrow that it should be or does the ration (of the movie) look OK?
