I'm looking for a clarification...

If you run into trouble the odd time ripping with DVD shrink (some discs like madagascar) you can apparently rip to the harddrive with dvd decrypter, with DVD shrink running in the backgound.  Then you can use shrink on the hard drive files and then burn the Video TS folder.

1.  Is this correct?
2.  Please explain "running in the background"  Will just having the program open help??
3   I assume this process means:  Rip with dvd decrypter
                                               Encode with Shrink
                                               Burn with Shrink/Nero

Please help

Yes the steps you mention are correct.

Some new DVDs may need AnyDVD installed as they use new protections DVD Shrink and / or DVD Decrypter cannot unlock.

At which point of that process would you add ANYdvd in?  Do you simply have the program running?  Or do you use it on the movie files at some point?

Very new to this.

Thanks,
Kev

Hi,

AnyDVD just runs in the background. (it appears in the tray). It does decryption automatically when you  enter a DVD.

I'm having the same problem as Kevin (pertaining to the same subject/topic). Even though i use shrink and decrypter, together,  and I get a faster rip time...I still get "invalid data in file vts_08_1.vob" message when I try to shrink it.  I do have AnyDVD, also.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Please help me, too.

Do you get the same message when you try to shrink using DVD Shrink directly? (and not using DVD Decrypter first)

Hi,

sorry for not asking this earlier, but does this happen with all DVDs you are trying to backup or just one / a few?

Please try installing and using AnyDVD and see if it works:

(you can download the trial to test)

You can use DVD Decrypter to do everything, without using AnyDVD or any other program. Simply search for a PSL (Protected Sector List) file, download it, then set DVD-D to DEFAULTS, set to FILE mode and import the PSL file, and it'll rip perfect. I have used this technique on Madagascar, Stealth and others. The rips / burns are flawless. The best place to find PSL lists are on www.cdr-zone.com, but you will have to create an acct. there, as dl's are for members only.

I use Fair Use and had absolutlely no problem ripping Stealth or Madagascar to a 700mb xvid avi file. Sounds like you are doing a lot of extra work to me. Of course you obiviously want to make an DVD size copy of those movies and burn them to DVD to play in your standalone dvd player, I run my pc with a dual display video card so I can just play the files directly to my TV and I never have to mess with the dvd player and all my movies are just a mouse click away.

Well, you are correct, I am doing a lot of extra work, but that is because, yes, I am making true DVD's, and I am also making many for friends/family/others to play on stand-alone DVD players. If I just waned to watch on my pc, or stream to my tv, then I wouldn't take this much time. But as stated, I want DVD quality movies, with menus and extras.
