A new French law that is to be voted in the next days at the French Parliament is considered to be "by far the most restrictive copyright law ever in the world, turning legal users into criminals by the millions". Both VSO Software (creators of CopyToDVD, DivXToDVD and Blindwrite among others) and the team that develops the free, open-source player VideoLAN, known for its ease of use and ability to playback most video and audio formats with no need to external codecs, have published announcements in their websites about the possibility that this new law would cause the discontinuation of their products.
