I have read the instructions carefully.....I have now made 3 coasters.....my dvd player will not recognize the dvd when i try to play it....I know the dvd player will play a burned dvd, because my son managed to do it ( and yes he reminds me of that regularly..lol..).....any suggestions?..the dvd that I burn will play in my computer, but not in my dvd player.....

Maybe your DVD player "preffers" certain media? Like only DVD-R (or DVD+R) or some brand.

Have a look at www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers to find a list with reviews about what each player is capable of playing and what not. You may be able to find your standalone there, good luck!  Smiley
