 Sad  Hi All,

I am an absolute beginner and have just bought one Canon ZR-200. I do not even have a SD card for it till now, though I will get it soon. I have a Windows XP PC with USB support but NO FIREWIRE (IEEE 1394). I have these problems:

1.) Whenver I connect the Camcorder to the PC via USB cable, the PC does not recognize it. It does not beep, even no messages, nothing. It does not KNOW that a new device has been connected. I even checked the Windows Device Manager, but to no avail. Is it a problem with USB or is it with the fact that I do not have an SD card yet?

2.) Also does the USB on ZR200 only transfer Images via USB? If so, is Firewire the only way of transferring Video to my PC? I request a detailed procedure for doing both.

3.) How do I Transfer Video Files from the camera to the PC via USB, if it is possible.

4.) What options do I have on the ZR200 to make it function like a WEBCAM? Is it possible, via USB?

I know someone might say that I need to read the manual, but then the manual seems to be written for people who already know how to operate camcorders.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Chaitanya

You camera should come with a CD with drivers. Install them first, then with the USB cable you will be able to take photos from the memory out AND use it as a web camera.

Yes, you need firewire you transfer the video over. Just get a firewire PCI card. There is a guide for doing so in our guides section, DV to DVD, but I am sure your camera comes with some utility for this as well.
