Ok this is just a simple guide for the beginner, not ment as the end all of DVD copying. Also don't copy a movie unless you actually own it, that would be illegal.
Ok first you are gonna need some software, but worry not it is all free.

DVD Decrypter (click to download)Once downloaded, install both. The default settings for Shrink are fine but we need to do a one time set-up for Decrypter. So start Decypter, then press the W on your keyboard. If done right you will see this screen. Simply set the write speed to 4x, then close the program. I say to set it to 4x as most people will have cheap burners and cheap media, this helps give a better final product. If you want you can set it higher, but don't bitch if you get shitty copies.
Ok now lets get started. This first part is for people that have a burner drive, and a second DVD drive. Even if you only have on you can still burn, but read this as it is almost the same. This method will require about 5gb of free hard drive.
1. You need to start DVD Shrink, in the upper left corner you will see the Open Disc button, push it.
2. Now search for the drive that has the DVD and press OK, as you can see I am burning the Matrix.
if done right it will start to analyze the movie, just let it do it's thing
3. Ok the disc is done, now we need to figure out how we are gonna fit 9gb worth of stuff into 4.5gb of space. The first thing is to just compres everything. If you look you can see that this movie will have 48.6% compression. 100% is no compression. We are trying to stay above 65% if we can.
What do we do? First we can select the whole DVD and remove some of the audio streams we don't need. But we are still only at 59.1% If above 65% then go to step 4.
Next option is to remove the extras. There are two ways to do that, one way keeps the menu, the other doesnt. The menu still takes up space, but I like them so I keep them. Ok to keep the menu hilite the extras, the on the right change from automatic, to still image. You can download fun images by going to
www.dvdshrink.info, or use any picture you want, just click browse and select any picture you want.
As you can see that gave 74% so that is cool, from here go to step 4.
The other option is to burn just the movie, for that click Re-Author
On this screen you need to pick what you want to burn, as you can see there are several choices under Main Movie, Title 1 is usually what you want, drag and drop it under DVD
Once under DVD, you can preview it, by clicking the play button, if it looks like what you want go to step 4, if not delete it and try another.
4. Ok now we need to burn it, so click Backup!
you will see this screen, with 5 tabs, I will show you what I use under each. First you must select "ISO image file and burn with DVD Decrypter." Select target image file: can be anywhere you have 5gb of free space, but remeber it, as when the dvd is burned you will want to delete it.
Next tab make sure to make it region free, provider ID can be whatever you want.
This tab will only be active if you are compressing the movie, some movies wont and this screen will be gray. Either way this is what I pick, and it works well for me.
The last two require no changes, but this is what they look like. Once done click OK.
If this screen pops up you are good to go, the computer will do the rest, just go grab a beer and wait. Once done your computer will play a little song.
Ok this is what you do if you only have one drive. Insert the DVD and start DVD Decypter, press F on your keyboard, if done right you will see this. Select a destination that has 9gb of free space. Then press the big ass button.
Once done start DVD Shrink click Open Files, navigate to the folder you just made with Decrypter, click Ok. It will analyze the movie, you can now return to step 3.
