Hi there,

I had a look at a good article How to convert VCD/SVCD To DVD keeping original MPEG1 video,
http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=othertodvd&name=vcdtodvd.

It's recommended to use a tool TMPGEnc for extracting elementary video (.m1v) and audio (.mp2) files from original VCD files (.dat). Then these .m1v and .mp2 files are processed in another tool TMPGEnc DVD Author.

As I can see, the TMPGEnc DVD Author can accept .mpeg (refined .dat) files directly without preprocessing.
So, what is the point of doing all steps explaining in the guide?

P.S. Of course I want to keep original MPEG1 video.

Many thanks,
Alexey, not a DVD guru

There are 2 reasons for doing that:

1) Sometimes TMPGEnc DVD Author has trouble accepting the .dat file or even when it accepts it it gets stuck at some point.
2) To join the movie in the middle so that there is no pause in the DVD.

TMPGEnc is free (only the MPEG2 encoder is extra), so this way is what I think the best one.
