I have tried to split a very large avi file with Virtualdub. The splitting operation worked and i have saved it as avi somewhere on my desktop, but unfortunately when i play the file, the sound appears to be OFF by a few seconds...

can someone tell me what went wrong ?

Hi,

maybe the audio stream is VBR? Try using VirtualDubMod (you can find it in our downloads section).
