Hi, I recently purchaed a Sony camcorder (first time user) and am trying to get the recorded video onto DVD.  I transferred the video to my PC resulting in .avi files.  The video looks good when viewed on the cam and the .avi files play well in Windows Media Player.  I use WinAvi to convert to DVD.  Before I burned to DVD, I played the resulting .vob file in PowerDVD (full screen), but the resulting video is degraded and blurry.

The original files appear to be recorded at 352/240 resolution so I would expect a "full screen" resized video to be blurry just like if you resized a graphic beyond it's original resolution.

My question is how do I record video and burn to DVD while maintaining video quality?  Am I stuck with this small resolution (352/240)?  Am I expecting too much from WinAvi?

Some specs:

Camera uses NTSC 4:3 format
OS is WinXP
WinAvi:  I left most of the settings at the default

thanks for any advice,

mj

Maybe you are trying to put too many minutes of video in one DVD and WinAVI lowers the resolution?

Try to limit the video you try to put in one DVD to under 120 minutes.

Maybe you can try to select the "PAL" for the target format.
