Angel Day i've also noticed the same thing. I've just updated my WinAVI to 7.5 and have found a problem with it, its not a speed issue though its to do with the output size. Since i've updated, when I try to convert AVI to DVD and select constant video size to 4300mb the finished converted files only total to about 2000mb. I've tried a same file that i used in 7.1 which after being converted came out at about 4250mb but in the new version i only get around 2000mb. I've even tried changing the constant video size to 8.5 but that don't make a difference it still comes out at 2000mb. Can anyone help or should it be like this?

Hi Haunts!

So I am not alone with this problem.  Smiley And what do U think about the quality? Have U noticed any difference between the bigger and smaller DVD format? I think the quality is the same. So, in this case we should be happy.  Wink

I hope...  Grin

No it looks good to me as well, but it would be interesting to see what the conversion quality would be like if it came out closer to 4300mb's.

Same for me.  No matter what setting I use, constant size (whatever size) or constant quality, I get a disk varying between 2.1 and 2.5 gig from an avi of 700 mb.

Hope this is fixed soon.

you can compare the picture quality between v7.1 and v7.5 by using VirtualDubMod, the different is very obvious.

i just downloaded virtualdubmod. how do i compare the files?

thanx.

Winavi 7.7 gives better picture quality. The encoding speed is the same for me for all versions after the 7.0 version=around 15min for a 350mb avi with Pentium 4 ,3.0GH. Cool

The only problem that remains is that version 7.7 still needs vobsub filter in order to burn the subtitles on the image.I cannot understand why the Winavi devellopers don't pay attention to such a usefull important feature like the devellopers of Convertxtodvd did successfully. Sad

GO GO WINAVI Smiley

I have been trying to convert 7 .avi files to dvd, via winAVI converter. When i try to burn the dvd with Nero, it says "Required file 'VTS_01_2.VOB' is not present".

winavi 7.7 is garbage Wink...at the middle of the movie the audio offsets with the video  Roll Eyes
version 7.6 is the best...but all versions have problems with vob sub...some dialogs just dissapear  Huh Huh Huh...when played with wmp all dialogs are there (vob sub works)...
hope they fix this...maybe winavi 8x will not depend on vob sub for subtitle...

Exactly my point Shaty !!! Wink
All versions of Winavi loose subtitles when using vobsub.
The next version must not depend on Vobsub!

Edit :
Problem with missing subtitles resolved :

I tested Winavi 8 and the only problem i found is this :

It supports now external subtitles BUT in my case it cannot understand the greek language so i get chinese (= non readable) characters. Sad Sad Sad
I ll see what happens if the external srt file is in english.I guess that there will not be any problem with english subtitles.

Everything else worked fine. Smiley

The speed is excellent ( it took me 10 minutes to convert a 350mb avi to dvd in higher quality)  Smiley

The new feature of DVD menu creation worked fine also. Smiley

Many thanks to the devellopers. Smiley Smiley Smiley

I will start to use version 8 when they fix the support of greek subtitle language.

Hi
Does anyone know if the new beta version of winavi works with Vista? I have used this program brilliantly for a few years with XP, and would have thought that they should have sorted it out to work with Vista before now.
Thanks

:DYes,v8.0 can used on Vista. You can try.

ipred:
For the subtitles, maybe you can go to the advanced,Dshow decoder or built-in decoder, then select which stream you want there(if your source file have more than one).
Wish that can help you.

Over the past 2-3 weeks I went from 6.3 to 7 (can't remember which) now 8.

I use(d) all with speed setting. I think 8 is quicker, although I have not timed.

I never bothered with menus before, but now with 8 it is automatic unless you turn it off and I have decided I like them. The actual menus are very attractive and usable, better than the menus you get on commercial dvds.
