I am trying to rip a music dvd with video clips to my hard drive...

1. what format can i use for max quality and min size? divx or xvid?

2. what is the best program i can do that with, and can do it for separate chapters for each video clip?

it seems divx and xvid have the same foundation, and their playing quality are pretty much the same. xvid is much faster.
however, both of them have better quality and smaller size. Wink

sure you can separate chapters. Grin u can try imtoo dvd ripper, i used it a lot. it can show the chapters of clip automatically. you can rip certain chapter and save it as the format you want, say, divx. Grin

click the button between “Title” and the red one, which is “ Start Ripping”. It will show or hide the chapters of your DVD.

The imtoo's product is very excellent, but if you only want to rip audio from DVD, I recommend you the  DVD Audio Ripper also from ImTOO

Maybe you will be confused by all kinds of video transfering software, In my personal opinion, I strongly recommend you that the xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum is your best choice .
