I would like to rip my DVDs into a format that preserves 99% of the quality---so that when I display it on a large 100" screen, the video looks pretty much the same to most videophiles.  (I understand that when one compares image by image with a magnifying class, it will look different.)

the guide says that h.264 is the right format to go to.  for a DVD of 4.1gb and 5.1 audio, what target size (either KB/sec or gigabytes for 41.gb input) should I choose for my h.264 target?

advice appreciated.
