I used the program recommended by this guide http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/157/59/ to extract my subtitles from an .mkv file. However, when trying to add them to my project (as described in this guide http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/158/59/) using ConvertXtoDVD, the program says that it skipped the subtitles because they were empty.

The subtitles, I believe, are in the .ass configuration. How do I get subtitles that will appear in my DVD player after I have burnt the DVD?

Try converting the subs to .srt format using Subtitle Workshop before using CXtoDVD

Thank you lots!!! It worked! You are my hero.

... Well... it did work for a few of my mkv files, however, now it does not. I did the same steps, extract the subtitles, convert them to .srt and then added them in ConvertXtoDVD and the subtitles do not appear on my DVD's I've tried this method twice with the same episode and it does not work. ConvertXtoDVD is not giving me any error messages when I insert the subtitles, it is just not putting them on the DVD.

I looked back at the original guide and saw this comment:

Method not working
written by Skynet, May 27, 2007
I just tried the method described above and it did NOT work for me. I also tried several MKV tools but none of them worked either. Then I upgraded VirtualDubMod to its latest version, dowloaded the Haali MKV Splitter, and created an AVS Script with the next command: DirectShowSource("source.mkv"). I opened it with VDubMod and now I can convert to AVI with any codec prefered. To extract the audio you have to open the MKV file itself.

I tried to do everything in this comment and I got as far as downloading the Haali MKV Splitter. I do not understand how or where to create a "an AVS Script with the next command: DirectShowSource("source.mkv")". Nor do I understand the rest of the instructions after that point.

Help on how to get my subtitles to appear on my DVD?

I recommend you of Xilisoft DVD Subtitle Ripper to extract subtitles from DVD and VOB, SUB files.
And use Xilisoft DVD Creator to burn to DVD.
