Alright I have a movie that is .mkv. I have watched the movie from begining to end on my 50 inch PC monitor/tv.  Grin

The movie is perfect.

When I use Convert X 2 Dvd to make it a burnable dvd All options are set to default except one. I change the encode option to Highest quality/slow encoding. I let the program run overnight so time is not a problem. There are no subtitles in the movie and the movie's duration is only 1hr 20 min. Problem: when it is done converting I get an error (sort of) saying that the file size should have been 4.4gb, however the "overflow" made it 4.88 gb. I have done this twice with this movie now.

The problem is obvious, I cannot burn 4.88gb on a standard DVD.

Get this. I've tried to lower the encoding value to "normal/reccomended" and when it is done the video is only 2.(something)
gb's. What's up with this?

I love Cx2dvd. Is it me? the original video source in the mkv file is h264. Dunno if that has anything to do with it.
And lastly, is there any other program out there (not dvdsanta...awful) that will do a better job. IE a higher quality encode? THank you in advance.

in ConvertXtoDVD config settings (i forget which tab now and mine is converting something so i can't view it) ... but there is a Target Size option (or something similar) switch that from DVD5 to DVD9 and burn it to a dual layer disc.

also check and make sure the log file isnt being forced onto the disc, and there is also a setting to burn original files to the disc as well, the log file is something that can be burned if there is space if not ConvertXtoDVD will ignore it, but i'm not sure about the "add original files" option, personally i leave that one turned off all the time

hope this helps a little

the output file is around 11% too big so go to settings/encoding/target size and set it to 'custom' size of 4000MB.
when this file is output 11% too big it 'should' come out at around 4464MB (4.36GB) and fit on a DVD-5
