I have been desperately trying to convert a .dat file to a dvd on winavi. its a movie, and its 2 hours and 50 minutes long, but evrey time i try to convert, it stops at 100% and then dosen't do anything no matter  how long you leave it be. I have all of the proper codecs installed. I don't know what to do.

You can try Cucusoft MPEG/DivX/AVI/MOV/RMVB to DVD/VCD/SVCD Converter Pro ,it can convert and burn any video file like MPEG/DivX/AVI/MOV/RMVB etc directly to DVD, VCD or SVCD, it works great for me.
You can free download from  here.
