I am hoping someone can fill me in here...Earlier I posted a problem I was having with missing sound tracks after ripping. DVD Shrink cannot preview the sound after ripping with DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter or DVD Fab Decrypter. What I have now found is the sound is actually there but will only play with certain DVD players. Unfortunatly my newer Samsung DVD HD860 does not play the sound while my older Magnavox MSD126 does play sound on the same copied DVD. My PC will not play sound either if using Media Player or Win DVD 5. The video is fine on all devices.
When trying to play the copied DVD Win DVD 5 sends a popup that says DTS decoding not supported. I have found the same problem on several DVD discs.

Well it seems strange to reply to my own message, but I believe I have found the answer to my question thanks to the WWW and a little persistance.
DTS is a "Digital Theater System" sound format that when present on copied DVDs may effect audio playback depending on settings on your DVD player. On my newer DVD player there is an audio setting to switch between Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1. When DTS 5.1 is selected the analog output is disabled, therefore no sound out of the tv. That is provided you are using the analog outputs. It seems if no DTS is present on the DVD the player uses the next available audio format.
I have found that DVD Fab Decrypter has a feature to "remove DTS" and has proven sucessful for me. After using this feature DVD Shrink can preview the audio on a pc without DTS decoders. DVD Shrink can also then encode the files so when the copied DVD is burned it can be played on a standard laptop, PC or DVD player. Of course the full DTS surround sound qualitys will be lost.
I sure hope someone benefits from this message as I have tossed out many DVD copies (with no sound) and become very frustrated with this issue.
If anyone has anything to add or correct please do.
Thanks
