Hey,

As a new user of Linux (Ubuntu, Version 7.04) I have discovered a problem with k9copy, but one that hopefully can be easily rectified by someone with infinitely more knowledge about Linux than me!

Following the user guide from this forum - http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/213/59/ - I have got to step 3 with no trouble. As far as I'm aware, the input and output devices I've selected are correct yet when I come to Step 3 the application closes (i.e. it closes when I click on the "open" icon to bring up the DVD structure.

Does anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong? One thing that has sprung to my mind is whether or not I have the "libdvdcss" package for encrypted DVDs, but I can't find that in the list when I open the Synaptic Package Manager...

Help! Thanks!

Hi,

to make sure you have libdvdcss you can do the following.

Add the Medibuntu repository:

Quote
sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/feisty.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update

and then install it:

Quote
sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2

These are command line commands, you can copy-paste them in a terminal, if you want GUI instructions let me know.

Sorry to be late to reply but I am on vacation and I don't have Ubuntu on my laptop.

You can follow the guide here to adding repositories and installing software:

https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/add-applications/C/extra-repositories-adding.html
(you follow the instructions and add "deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ feisty free non-free" as the line in place of the example)

and then to install libdvdcss:
https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/add-applications/C/advanced.html#synaptic
(in search look for libdvdcss2 - make sure you click Refresh -the first button - once after you added the extra repository)
