I am useing a COMPAQ deskpro, pd1006 series. pent 111, 256 ram, pent specs unknown, win xp pro, dvd rom drive. win CLASSIC, win player 9, VLC player. I have been told by different people that my system MAY OR MAY NOT be able to record video from any souce. I came across a dvd multi format REWRITE DRIVE. Aside from the fact that I DO NOT know if my system can record video. I was thinking of either repaceing or adding this drive to my tower. The idea here is to use it to record video from any number of sources. That brings up a whole host of never ending questions as to how to accomplish this. How and where do I find VIDEO files on the net/web? How do I import those files to the rewrite drive? How do I use REWRITE DISCS sa opposed to SINGLE WRITE discs? As an old schooler I like vcrs for  their simplicity. Do I neede to use a program such as NERO 6 to control and allow the drive to acctually record? Will the rewrite drive play copy protected discs? Only my win CLASSIC or VLC can do that automatically. WIN P9 CANNOT nor can QT or REAL player which I have since removed. That is a deficcency. I DO have NERO 6, but the tutorial does not work, I cannot get past the contents page. As an aside, I am useing a VGA/ANALOG converter to send a signal to my vcr, provided I use CLASSIC for CP discs. I am also useing a STABILIZER to make copies of CP discs from dvd player TO vcr, So you can see I like things simple! So I need someone to help me sort out all these issues and more helping me to see if this project is EVEN feasible, let alone practical. If this works I will need a CAPTURE device so I can record FROM tape to disc, discs to disc, video files to disc, may be even use my CD rewrite drive for the first time! I still use OPEN REEL for music, some of which is 50 years old and sounds as good now as then! You also should understand that my ears and eyes are not the best. A good quality tape looks and sounds just as good as a disc! At least to me. All those new tvs today, they all look the same to me regardless of the technology behind them. So if there is any brave souls out there who likes a challange, I am it! Any takers?

YOU SAID THAT YOU WANT TO WRITE THOSE VIDEO FILES TO YOUR DISC. IT IS A VERY EASY JOB .
FIRST YOU SHOULD DOWNLOAD ONE SOFTWARE FOR EXAMPLE XILISOFT DVD RIPPER  OR NERO.
THEN INSTALL THE SOFTWARE AND MAKE IT RUNNING AND THEN YOUR PUT THE FILES YOU WANT TO COPY TO DVD AND IN THE SOFTWARE CATALOG. PRESS THE WRITE ANDTHE SOFTWARE WILL WRITE  YOUR MOVIE TO YOUR DVD .

How do I use REWRITE DISCS sa opposed to SINGLE WRITE discs?

I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM IS .MAYBE YOU JUST WANT TO GET THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REWRITE DISC AND SIGHLE WRITE DISC. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE LATER CAN ONLY BE WRITE FOR ONE TIME BUT THE FIRST ONE CAN USE FOR MANY TIMES.
YOU CAN FLASH THE CONTENT OF THE FIRST ONE AND COPY NEW TO IT .
