I want to create a video clip by pulling a scene selection from a commercial DVD. I have DVD Player, QuickTime Player and iMovie--none of which I'm too familiar with--on my Mac PowerBook G4.

DVD Player will let me create a clip but it says, "Video clips are not saved on your computer, but DVD Player remembers...blah blah blah."

I see a lot of references to types of DVDs on this site.  Do I need to know if its DVD9 or X or Huh and how do I find out?

Is there a way to copy the clip to my Desktop? Can I use one of my current programs to do this or is there a free download from DVD-Guides that I can use?

Thanks!!

All you need is a program called DVD ripper
http://www.dvd-guides.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,95/topic,14299.new#new
It can rip dvds to regular video format so that you can edit.

DVD-5 Single layer, Single side DVD,  volume up to 4.7G
DVD-9 Double layer, Single side DVD, volume up to 8.5G
