First, I started out with AVS DVD Copy and made a copy of one of my DVDs.  Played it back and for some reason it was too dark. Dark and kind of red-ish. So I tried a different movie using AVS DVD Copy and ended up with the same results.

Then I decided to give CloneDVD2 a shot and still ended up with a dark picture exactly as I had with AVD DVD Copy. Tried that twice and ended up with the same results both times.

Then my final try was with DVD Shrink 3.2 - I removed all special features and left menus and sneak previews in place and was able to get the movie quality up to 80% and STILL ended up with a dark picture EXACTLY like the other two programs did.  I also tried 2 different brands of blank DVDs.  One type was -R and the other was +R and I got the same results from both. I've had these discs for a couple of years but they've been in the spindle and can't imagine them being bad. My laptop is brand new, just got it a couple months ago.

What gives?  I can rip the DVDs to XviD using DVD Decrypter and AutoGK and they'll play perfectly from the hard drive.  I suppose I could use something like TMPGEnc like I have  in the past and just do an XviD to DVD conversion and give up the menus but I was trying to preserve the menus to keep the copies as original as I can, minus certain special features of course.

Any help or suggestions with this would be greatly appreciated.  I see comments from people that have made copies using the above methods and they came out perfect for them so I'm not sure what's going on with mine.

Thanks in advance!

This is interesting....

I have been testing these DVD copies in my laptop but hadn't tested them on my standalone DVD player until after I made the original  post above. I put the DVD in my standalone and the picture is perfectly fine.  I know there's nothing "wrong" with the laptop or DVD burner because I can play XviDs off the hard drive fine and can play original DVDs from the burner just fine.

I think I have 1 of 2 possible problems.  1. The DVD burner doesn't like playing back the DVD+-Rs for some reason OR 2. The software DVD player I'm using doesn't like the way the copies are coded or something.  I have been using DVDX Player but I just downloaded the AVS DVD Player. Unfortunately I won't be able to try it until I get home from class after work tonight.  I'll give that a try when I get home and report my findings later.
