I posted in General but maybe it will be better here....

Is there a way to take a 720p .mkv file and convert to hd-dvd format and burn on a regular dvd and watch in a HD-DVD player in 720p?
I have Ulead Moviestudio but needs a mpeg-2 HD file to convert to hd-dvd but doesnt recognise .mkv

Any suggestions? I can use convertxtodvd but that is in 720x480 regular dvd format, I want to keep it in 720p and play back on my HD-dvd player....

Thanks...

Don't worry. Your problem can solve only with one easy software whose name is xililsoft dvd creator and it can not only solve your format problem but also can solve your Pixes control of 720*480
buy it is a software not for free you need to buy it .

Scofield, I'm trying to do the exact same thing as gigabyte, I'm hoping to play on my Toshiba HD-A2, and I was excited to see your response.  Unfortunately, things aren't as easy as I hoped.  I downloaded the trial version of Xilisoft DVD Creator from http://www.xilisoft.com/dvd-creator.html but I can't make it work.  For starters, after selecting 'add files' it doesnt have mkv as one of the supported formats, but by selecting 'all files' I see my mkv, try to add it, then a log window pops up with the message "The following files failed to be added:" then lists the file I tried to add.

I've tried with several 720p and 1080p mkv files, all H.264 video with either DTS or DD audio, with and without subtitles.   Their web page doesn't mention Metroska or HD-DVD, so it makes me wonder if perhaps you're mistaken?  If not, please advise how we can get this done!   Maybe we need to do something to unpack the mkv file before importing it into Xilisoft?

Thanks.

I've also tried with Nero Vision 5 from the Nero 8 trial, and it stops responding after adding the mkv file, I end up having to kill the app with task manager... plus I'm not 100% sure if AVCHD format is the right one for a HD-DVD even if it didnt hang, but I was gunna give it a try...  I do see Halil (sic?) media splitter come up in my system tray when after adding the file...

Anyone who knows how to do this with any software, input would be appreciated!

i've tried a product support MKV format, this program seems that developed by a new company in this industry, but during the trial period, it is very stable. i have ever used imtoo MPEG ENCODER and winavi video converter to try to convert the very large video files, but these two software crashed, beyond my imaginle the OJOsoft total video converter can complete the task perfectly.
at begining, i try this program just the same as you that i need to convert MKV format.
well, hope it can solve your problem. by the way, give u the url of the product or you can just google it by enteringthe name: http://www.ojosoft.com/video-converters/total-video-converter.html   Smiley
