I have a DVDr 16x that I can not watch on my computer, I have also lent out to friends with more currnet computers and no one can watch- some we can see just the image and no sound. 

Is there a way to convert the 16x so that it can be viewed, I need to send out copies and am worried that they might not be able to watch and hear the video either.

Actually I have not understand what is the problem is :
maybe there  are two possibilities
one is that something wrong with your disk
the other is that your dvd 16x have something wrong .
oh, the third possiblity is the disk is encrypted and you need some software to decrypted and you can watch it.
for example you can use xilisoft dvd ripper to rip the video into your hard disk and you can watch it .
