Hi fellow DVD coaster makers!  I just spent several hours making 5 very expensive DVD coasters, so if this post sounds like I'm venting, I AM VENTING BECAUSE I'M PI**ED OFF!

I'm also going right back to videohelp.com and post this same information so they can remove the link to this incorrect Nero 6 DVD burning guide!

I have Nero 6, v6.6.1.5 just downloaded "e" earlier today so I have the latest release of Nero 6, and I'm using high quality Ritek DVD-R media.

I've read this guide http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/40/59/ right off of this web site as I made all 5 of my new coasters this evening!  Either this guide is screwed up and nobody is paying any attention to it, or this web site is screwed up and nobody is paying attention to it either!  I'm not the only person whose posted problems with this guide, the comments below the guide are full of problem issues!  Kinda makes ya wonder if there's anybody steering this boat?  Any web guide writers around?  I'd settle for the web site master if all else fails!

so many times my eye site is blurrying, I've tried 5 times to burn the indicated files first to a DVD-R and all failed. The failure message says something about the DVD-File allocation failed.  I have included the log.text from my 5th and final try using this incorrect guide.  Perhaps somebody smarter than me can figure out how to use this guide but I think there's something wrong with it.  Here's my faillog.txt

There can be many reasons for these failures but none of them have to do with the guide.

First of all, check the DVD media. Are they good quality DVDs or some no-brand ones ? Try to use Ritek, TDK, Verbatim or Maxell.

Next I can see in the loads that Nero fails to find DVD-Video files. Are you files already converted into DVD format (check the filenames in the guide) or just some avi files you are trying to burn to DVD? If this is the error there is a good chance Nero didn't start running thus your DVD are not coasters.

Finally there could be a hardware problem. Remove the 2nd drive from the IDE channel and try again, also make sure the IDE cable is a brand new one.

I'm already using Ritek media and the firmware on my Sony DRU-710a is up to date.  I doubt a firmware update exists for the Cd/DVD rom.  The files I'm trying to burn are .vob, .bup, .ifo which are all DVD files.  I can't figure out why Nero doesn't recognize them as DVD files?
