A new release: Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 5

Every new release of Xilisoft Video converter is a feast for its users. I have been using Xilisoft Video Converter 3 so long as it came up. It worked so well that I can’t wait to try the new version of this video edit converter: Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 5. Well, it totally deserves the shot.
How to convert video? Until now people either used a couple of programs to perform all operations (clip, edit, split, convert, etc.) or just used a simple utility to convert video, which is very easy, but doesn't give the user much control of what is being created or the ability to edit or split. But fact is that what we really need is video edit converter. Now, finally, we have Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 5 to do all that with Xilisoft’s always user-friendly interface.
Trying to describe all the functions of this video edit converter in detail is an impossible mission for its diversified powerful functions, but I will still try my best to share all my experience with you guys. No need to read this guide thoroughly, you can just pick up any function interests you. Still, a complete reading will make you master of this powerful software.
To begin with, new features of the latest version of this video edit converter are sorted here for guys familiar with version 3.
1. Functions of creating video from pictures and batch grabbing pictures from video;
2. Support clipping and adding effects functions;
3. Common-use and advanced settings for profiles are offered to meet different users’ needs;
4. Support customizing the output file size and automatically calculating the corresponding video bit rate;
5. You can set various profiles for the same source file for outputting to facilitate your conversion;
6. Support running background.
Following is a more detailed step by step guide. OK. Here we go!
1. Start Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 5 and load file(s)
Add the video or audio files you would like to convert by clicking the "Add" button in the main interface or choose "Add" in the "File" menu.

Now, as you see, the video can be previewed and taken snapshot at the right bottom.
2. Select target output format and destination
In "Profile" combo-box, you can choose the format you want to convert to in the dropdown list. In version 5, more profiles are supported and sorted as is showed in the dropdown list.

Select the output folder by clicking the "Browse..." button or directly enter a path in "Destination" box.
3. Clip (optional)
You can clip the original video into several parts, then convert and output them separately or as a whole one. Check the video and click the “Clip” button, clip window will come up. Set start point and end point, you get the segment you want to convert and output. Click the “New Clip” to get more segments if you need. See the “Output segments as a whole one” box below? Check it and the segments will be output as whole one. Otherwise they will be output separately.

4. Effect (optional)
You can edit the video to output as well, such as crop, add effects, subtitles and watermark, etc.
Check the video you want to convert, and then click the “Effect” button, a new window will pop up. Four items: “Crop”, “Effect”, “Subtitle” and “Watermark” list on the left side. Each item has some parameters to be customized so that you can get whatever you want here. Moreover, Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 5 offers “Compare Preview” ( , the small button at the right bottom). Click it the original video and the added effects video are showed abreast so that they can be compared easily.
I found an interesting function: the crop lines, subtitles and watermark can be dragged by your mouse pointer. It makes operations much more flexible.

5. Add Profile (optional)
You can set various profiles for the same source file for outputting.
Check the video and click the “Profile” button, two new items will show up below the video. Check them and choose profile for each, you get two profiles for output then. Click the “Profile” button more times if you want more profiles for output.

6. Merge (optional)
You can also convert different videos and output them as a whole one.
Choose the videos you want to convert and click the “Merge” button, you get the “Merged Item”.

7. Set output mode (optional)
Common-use and advanced settings for profiles are offered to meet different customers’ needs. Common-use settings at the right interface are offered for users who are confused with the completed advanced settings.

For example, you want to have a smaller video, say, 700MB, other than a 4.3GB one. Generally speaking, you need to set the video bitrate, but as we all know, it’s not an easy job. Usually you have to input an estimated number relying on your experience and it not always works as you want. Luckily, Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 5 offers a “Bitrate Calculator” (“Tool”>”Bitrate Calculator”) with which you can easily get the exact number.

Well, you don’t like compressed video? The “Split” item – the last one of the common-use settings will do that job for you.

8. Begin to convert
Finally, click the "Convert" button to begin to convert, and you get the problem solved by this video edit converter. The default setting is all item(s) checked. If you only want to rip certain item(s), check it/them, click "Convert", and then Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 5 will convert them one by one. You would see the info "Completed" in the status column after a successful conversion.
OK, have a rest and wait for your brand new video now! Still, you have other choice. In “File”>”Run Background”, you can choose to run it in background during conversion. Then you can do other things and let the conversion alone.
