Recently, I watched Golden Gompass and found it was really a nice and interesting movie with beautiful scene. Some sections of this movie moved me much, and I decided to cut them out and then put on my iPod so that I can play and enjoy it always.

Then using “dvd to “ipod”, I searched the tools in google to do my jobs and found Xilisoft dvd ripper Ultimate here. I have heard of the software from this company months, so I decide to try this tool.

When I open the web page, I found there are so many functions and features about this software. It is DVD Ripper software meanwhile a DVD editor tool. The first thing that impresses me most is this software can rip DVD to so many video and audios formats and can support large account of portable media players well. It is truly an all-in-one and integrative software. It appears when people own this product, maybe they can do everything. And the second is it can cut and combine the movies, edit subtitle, and also it is very fast which is publicized on their website. This is just my preference. ( Of course, I expect it truly is.)

I downloaded and fixed it. I don’t like its interface because it is not vivid and flaming. Personally, I think it has a solemn face. 

I adjusted the subtitle to write character, and keep vertical position default so that I can watch it more clearly. And also, I change the Zoom to Media to make the image bigger. And then, I adjusted the video quality and audio quality to Higher.

I decided to cut out four sections, of which the length for the first one is about 10 minutes, the second is 9 minutes, the third 17minutes, and the forth 15 minutes. Then I set output files of these four sections to iPod (320*240) MPEG-4 Normal, finally click Rip button. It began to rip at 5:19 and ended at 5:50.

By the way, when I chose output format, I found its specific profile different from others. The profile files is classified with different media players which make users much easier find the format just fit for them.

After ripping, I suddenly found that some of the parameters I had adjusted were changed to default, for example, Zoom was changed to Letterbox, and the video quality and audio quality to Lowest. I am very puzzled and angry with this matter. I don’t know why it happened. Does this mean I should first adjust the parameters for each section after I choose them and they appear on the interface, then I can begin to rip? In any case, I am disappointed about this. I check the quality of the ripped video, it is just ok, however I expect it better. So I try again.

I set the parameters of four sections to Media and quality Higher, then rip it again. After that, I got four pieces of movie segments with iPod mp4 format. And the videos were fine for me. However, when I wanted to combine them, there came the problems. I couldn’t put them in the Xilisoft DVD Ripper Ultimate because them were video files not DVD files. How stupid! I am really jackeroo that I did not realize this matter. And I try again.

This time, I cut four segments out, then click the “Merge” button to combine them, set the parameters of four sections to Media and quality Higher. After that, when I wanted to set the subtitle, I found the “Effects” button is unavailable. I don’t know why. Then I searched the answer on support page but without solution. I am so tired that I decide to ignore it and begin to rip it. About 20 minutes later, I got what I want, a MP4 file including four favorite segments. And I send it to my iPod. It is ok for me now.

Compared with other rip software, Xilisoft dvd ripper Ultimate is really wonderful software with functions and features. We can find Xili company’s great efforts on this tool.
1. It can rip DVD to so many video and audio formats, and support a great many portable media players.
2. It supports video editing functions. You split, cut and combine movies, and also you can adjust the subtitle, add the watermark, set the zoom.
3. It can do the jobs very very fast with perfect quality.
4. Users can easy check the latest version and upgrade of the software.

These above interest and satisfy me most. However, I hope it could be better at some detail. For example, the tutorial on their website is so simple that it will be of little help. The skin could be more vivid and flaming.

Nice guide. thanks for sharing your review. I think xilisoft dvd ripper ultimate is really a wonderful software to rip DVD, edit DVD. However, I think it is too expensive. In case that people only want to rip DVD, i think xilisoft dvd ripper standard which is much cheaper can be a good choice. Get it at http://www.xilisoft.com
