I am a movie freak and download DVD Rip movies especially Axxo release. If I directly burn the .avi file in DVD-R and play it in my standalone DVD player (Sony home theater DAV-DZ20) it throws error like "data error".I want know whether my DVD player which supports divx format will support avi files in xvid format or not.

Also please guide me with best software if I have an AVI file and subtitles(srt) for it, how to make a new AVI or divx file with permanent subtitles, so when I play it in standalone DVD player it will show movie with subtitles already on it.I have tried divxauthor1.5 to convert it into divx with subtitle but most of the time it creates without subtitle and I am not impressed with the output.

What really important for me is the video quality. So please suggest me the best video quality settings to use.

My million dollar question is if a divx supportable player will support xvid avi file ?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Do you want to "burn" the subtitles on the .avi video? (meaning you cannot turn them off)

It is very likely that your standalone DVD won't play the xvid avi files if they are not encoded with the proper options.
