It is possible. I do not have a DVD burner, but our DVD player (Samsung HT-DS610)  in the family room somehow plays AVI format files (not without careful codec seletion).

2 questions:
1. Why is it that the DVD player will only play the AVI file in the MKV->VOB->AVI sequence? MKV->AVI sequence will not play in the player

2. The AVI file that does play in the player does not play completely smooth. It hesitates every second or so. I suspect it is the 29.97 frame/sec. The orignial MKV file is 23.967 fram/sec.

I'm new here, and I hope that I'm not alone with this problem. Still, thank you in advance for any help, hints, or suggestions.
