Hi

I have downloaded dvdx 2.2 and followed the guide to rip dvds to VCDs. I do not have a DVD burner but I have a DVD-CD writer combo. Hence, my aim is to copy my DVDs into VCDs that I can watch on my DVD player in the living room. The problems I encountered are as follows.

1. I will refer to this as a SHAPE problem. After ripping the entire movie for 6 hours. I finds that it plays well with the sound and the picture good. But the window is more sqaure such that faces looks slightly squashed. for example, lomousines looks shorter. The DVD was a region one DVD. what settings should I change?

2. THE BURNER PROBLEM: After this I used ROXIO cd creator 5 that came with my Laptop to burn the movie onto a CD-R. I selected the DATA option, selcted the first movie file and burned it, Finilised the cd.  It could noy play in the home DVD player. What did I do wrong?

3. the third problem is the REGIONS. problem. I have not tried it yet BUT. with dvdx 2.2. Can I rip a different region DVD without changing the region settings of the player? If not what programs do I have to install to make my DVD-rom region free? I am using the Compaq HP nx 9010 laptop.

Thanks

To your questions:

#1-Make sure that you have set the Output>Export Setting Rez> ~Set it to 640x480.Then make sure that Zoom is set at Full.

2#-ROXIO is a buggy bruner app.It was wrightrn with a flawed code.Goto http://nero.com/us/index.html And download the 30 day demo. From the Nero menu, slect VCD and brun it that way.

3#-Yes,you can do that, and keep the settings.

I have successfully ripped a different region DVD withoud changing the region setting of WINdvd. I Have fixed the shape problem as well.

Now, I tried to watch the movie closely on my LAPTOP. all went well except there is loss of quality or picture deterioration where there are sudden movements (fast movements) such as fighting and running. There picture becomes pixelated. Why is this so. How can it be fixed?

thanks

Make sure that you have the settings just set as Afonic stated.
Your laptop my not be the prob,but that you don\'t have all the right codec to play it;

http://www.programas-gratis.net/php/descarga.php?id_programa=364&descargar=K-Lite Codec Pack 2.20 Full

I can\'t see why this would be,but it just may be.Can you tell us if what forumat you RiP it as,IE DivX,XviD~And weather you left it as such or bruned it back onto a DVD,Converted to MPEG-2.

Well, I did not make any changes, I used the settings for VCD as described in the guide. I have WinDVD 4 and windows media Player (not sure what version.

My laptop has XP professsional, Intel 2.3 G processor, so I DID NOT opt for the Pentium 4 options. Or should I?

Just ripped the DVD, and double clicked on the finished file to watch. No other convertions made.

Thanks

Yes,what were you thinking.Useing a P2 with XP!!Ahhh!
But thats not what causeing the prob. You don\'t need to be useing WinDVD to watch a VCD.WinDVD is used for watching DVD\'s,not VCDs.Use use your reg meida player and see if that helps.I can guess, but useing a P2 to RiP and encode is not the best of things.May I ask how much RAM you have?

I hav a nx 9010 Hp compaq laptop. it has a processor equivalent to Pentuim 4. Its 2.3 GHz cpu, and 256 Mb RAM. I dont have the laptop with me now i could double check.

About winDVD: I play VCDs from on it no problem and My windows media player have not been playing DVDs till WinDVD was installed, So they use the same decoder or Driver.

I info hope this would help. sorry for the confusion

Hi there,

VCDs are supposed to have much lower quality than DVDs, this \"pixelated picture\" think is normal.

If you want to play the movies in your laptop only and not in a DVD player (stadalone) you may want to consider DivX that offers much better quality in even less size. (normal movies - 1:30 - can be copied in one CD only!).

Of course you can find the right guides at www.dvd-guides.com

In your Guide. can i use the Pentuim 4 options. Will my processor handle it.

In addition, You said something about the motor of the DVD-rom Drive. When ripping, There is a display something like buffering for a few second, then its qiuet for a long period.  How can i imprive the health of my DCD-rom drive.

BTW, i have not burned the mivie on the cd jet, but thats my ultimate goal.

Thanks for all the help and guides. LOL

Pentium 4 options are for Pentium 4 proccessors or a crach will occur!

By setting the Save your DVD drive value to a big number you save it from working for hours!! Simple and smart!
If you want to improve it\'s health I\'d suggest a vegeterian diet and some excercise. Also sent it to a gym. it may even rip faster that way!  Cheesy
