:? Hi, first off, fantastic site, the guides seem great!  However, whilst ive successfully managed to convirt files to mpeg, then use tmpg author to add menu\'s etc, when it came to burning the info with nero, everything appeared to go right, but once i put the copied disc in my pc dvd player and attempted to open it in MY Computer, it refused to read the disk and my computer icon locked up.  Not really sure what i\'ve done wrong, but am very new to this game.  Would really appreciate any advice or tips etc.  Thanks, sorry if this in the wrong forum but didnt think the problem was specific to one program

Maybe the DVD that you haver burned is problematic. It works OK with normal DVDs right?

Try playing the DVD in another computer or standalone to make sure that it has a problem.

If it does then the problem is bad media (get, TDK, Maxell, Plextor) or your DVD burner is faulty.

since i first posted, i\'ve been able to run the dvd files i created with tmpg author through windvd, using the hard drive copy and it worked fine, so obviously the files have been created successfully.  What i really need help with is why the burnt dvd can\'t be read by my machine.  It completely locks up the my computer icon, with the dvd drive read light remaining on.  Only way to get the system back is to reset or sometimes itl let me get the disc out.  Why HuhHuh??  All help truly gratefully recieved!!!

What it might be:

1It\'s a bad burned, simply not finished and the CD/rom is confused and lost.

2 Your Player isn\'t hooked up right when installed with the IDE cable and jumper set right even though it might work..  This doesn\'t mean it\'s the case if you bought the computer and it came with it installed.

3  You having a scrach on the Disk will cause this.

4  If the headers of the file are bad when burn onto disk, I can see this command causing a general protecting error on windows 98/ME but maybe on XP your system just looks up.

5 It can be alot of things to how it was put onto the disk..  Did you try using another program to do what you want to do?

i\'ve tested the discs i made on a friends stand alone dvd player and they work fine, so i suspect its probably my dvd player, ive had problems with it reading the disc menu before. for example if a write once to a disk, but leave it open for future use, then put another file on it, my computer will say the file exists but other computers won\'t.  Very strange i know, and very costly!!  Thanks for the advice though

This happen to me as well, it\'s how it was burned to disk from the burner.
and only that burn/computer can see the files.

Hmmm, I think this has something to do with, ISO image extractions and image remounting, some cd roms not able to read them, you can create a virtual drive, here read this this will explain alot more

Ok understand..  If the device works you shouldn\'t need a new one.  Maybe an updated driver.

Find out the make and go to there web site and see if they have updated the driver for your device, alot of times they do.  Then I would do a full www.windowsupdate.com your self and install all the updates for the computer.  To start this should be easy to do first. ok..
