Mine did that also. I went into Program files,321 folder, in the Platinum folder and double clicked on Drive Select I believe, and then it recognized my reader and writer. Let me know if this works for for your friend.

we did that and there aren\'t any drives to choose from there. it is all blank. I dont understand what is going on because power dvd will work, dvd shrink and dvd decrypter will work but i just cant get dvd x copy platinum to even see the drive.

Any other suggestions, please, and yes we unistalled it and then reinstaled it and it still doesn\'t work.

Had this problem as well, you need to select the drive select.
Goto start bar and to program files and file DVD platinum and hover your mouse over it to display the other folders in there and click drive select, you will be able to then point to the drive which is the DVD burner.

Something happened even though you can use it but you can\'t see it..  What I would do in this case is remove the drivers of the cd/Rom and reboot and let the computer put back the drives again, maybe this will fix this.

All you have to do it goto My Computer and right click on My Computer and then to properties, then to device manger.  From here click on Cd/Roms and click remove/right click should do it or there will be an option as you highlight it.

If drivers get damage but it still works the device, this is the way to repair the driver if it is damaged.

Let me know

jsrollins, you\'ve come up at just the right time with the question \'cause I just wanted to ask the same! Don\'t forget to tell if removing and reinstalling the drivers worked for you.

Hmm, this thread is 20 days old, maybe he is not still here.

Do you have the same problem?
Have you ran the Driver select utility that comes with DVDXCopy?

Afonic, thanks a lot for responding! I was just going to put up a new thread but then maybe I don\'t have to. To answer your question, yes I have ran the select tool, but nothing happened (the point is I ruined a couple of good disks \'cause the Platinum wouldn\'t burn). Anyway, the cursor just changed into the hourglass for mere couple of miliseconds and that\'s it. Never got a chance to select anything (should it?).

This may be useful to someone so I\'m gonna go over what I did next. Well, I removed the Platinum (entries in the register, and the folder of 321Studios included) and install again. (The select tool didn\'t work again, but the thing was finally burning!).

And I discovered a feature about the Platinum I never knew about. Here goes: the DVD (Xfiles) I tried to backup didn\'t have the AUDIO_TS folder in it. What it had was some more folders which stored software for playing DVD movie files (you know like InterPlayer or some other, don\'t remember what it was). So, when I used Platinum it wouldn\'t even read the DVD disk and stopped after 1 second of reading (literally). Reboot.

Question time:
1. How can I copy a CSS- and region-encyrpted DVD with no AUDIO_TS folder but with some other additional folers carrying DVD playing software (Platinum obviously gets effed up and needs reinstalling). What software do I use instead?
2. What exactly happens when I use the select tool?

Well I suggest that you copy this DVD with another program like DVD Shrink, if Platinum has a problem. DVD Shrink is free and you can read a guide here:
http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=dvdcopy&name=shrink
It removes protection.

The select tools just tells DVDXCopy which is your DVD burner. It is usefull because if you also have a CDR and the DVDR is a new model, DVDXCopy may become confused and don\'t know which one to use. Actually in the Platinum\'s settings there is the drive select tools inlcuded.

No, but that\'s what I did!!! Not only the Platinum (which I find more and more tiresome) but DVDshrink would not copy the disk.

I have read the guide for it but there is nothing about such DVDs I have the problem with. Hmm, perhaps if I copied these additional files from DVD disk into HD I could then copy that particular VOB file which won\'t get copied, what do you think? Maybe the additional DVD playing software is linked to that VOB file and cannot be copied if the software itself is not in the target movie folder. And the damn InterPlayer software can\'t be copied because DVDshrink (and the Platinum) are designed to copy \'TS\' folders.

Or maybe I\'ll start a new thead anyway to get through to more people - like you said this one is old and probably nobody reads it anyway.

That\'s a lot of mayby\'s. Do you know of some other DVD backing-up software that might work for me?

Thanks for all your suggestions. If not today, I\'ll get back to you on Monday.

I don\'t think that this is true, I have copied this kind of DVDs before.

Maybe the DVD is scratched or something else?
Try to rip the files usinf DVD Decrypter (guide: http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=dvdrip&name=decryptervob ) and then load in DVD Shrink using the open file feature.

Afonic, if you copied DVDs like the ones I\'m after, then it must also work for me. How exactly did you did you do it, \'cause both DVDdecrypter and shrink can\'t do it for me! (urghhhh!)
