Hi Everyone
I\'m completely new to the world of DVD!
Just bought a multi-format drive, which came with the following software:
B\'s Clip (Packet Writing)
B\'s Recorder Gold 7 Basic
NeoDVD

This is quite a basic package, but seems to work ok.
What software would you recommend to use for creating basic DVD\'s, slideshows, burning digital camera movies (avi\'s) to disc?
I\'m about to download DVDShrink for straight disc to disc copy (shrinking/encrypting)
I have Nero 6 Suite but haven\'t installed it yet.
Does anyone know if it works without installing INCD4, as this will clash with B\'s Clip (can\'t have 2 packet writers on the same pc)
Is INCD4 a superior software for packet writing?
Is Nero Recode2 better than DVDShrink?

Sorry, I\'m trying to learn \"on-the-fly\"!
I\'ve heard rumors that Nero will install over some of my codecs, and I have them just how I like them!

I\'ve also heard that Sonic MyDVD is a good piece of software.
I\'d really like to use Nero, but don\'t want to regret installing it, and having to uninstall the other software I have.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Nero is the best burning tool, if you have it, install and use this instead.

Also get the freeware tools DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink

For the slide shows and stuff DVD X Treme (commercial) which you can find here:

Thanks Afonic.
I\'ve bitten the bullet and installed Nero.
Windows gave me the blue screen at first, but seems quite happy now.
Everything seems to be working and Nero\'s writing to my drive champion.
At the moment I\'m still using a different packet writer (\"B\'s Clip\") than INCD, but it seems to take ages to write via Nero, so I may install INCD4 instead.
I\'ll download the dvd decrypter and dvdshrink, as you advise.
Thanks again for responding.

Blue screen?

If you are still using Win98 or Me and you have something equal or better that a P3, 256MB RAM I suggest you update it to WinXP and NTFS file system.

Sorry, was a euphamism for blue screen of death - it was a black screen actually!
Running XP on an AMD Athlon 1500+ with 512mb ram (but just about to add another 256)

You\'re OK.

For working with DVDs, I suggest NTFS as they handle big files easily.
You should be OK with 512MB RAM!

Good luck!

yes, ntfs with 512mb ram or more is cool.

but for poor users like me :
feel happy!
win98se or ME works perfect with nero 5 or 6 with 256mb ram!

Thanks guys.

I\'ve got the LG4081b - installed no problem and writing like a dream to all formats, sadly my dvd won\'t read plus, but luckily most of the media I bought was minus!

The extra ram is up and running too!

I just need 36 hour days now to play with all my new toys!
I remember the days pre-pc, when I did constructive things with my time - instead of \"5 minute jobs\" that take all night!!

Jorel - did you install the software that came with the drive?  Think I\'m going to take B\'s clip off and install INCD instead.

Snappypix,
let me told a short story about my LG:
2 months ago, i got an LG4040b!
i install the software that came with the drive...
B\'s Clip (Packet Writing)
B\'s Recorder Gold Basic
NeoDVD

i had some problems (and the whole world too) with velocity with some medias.
the drive only \"saw\" 2x in dvd medias that can burn 4x.
i got an firmware update and everything works fine!

few days later (maybe a month) i change the LG4040b for a new LG4081b.
i don\'t install the new versions of the programs that came with the drive
and the versions that came with LG4040b don\'t work with the new drive,
then i uninstall B\'s clip, B\'s recorder and NeoDVD.
after do that, i install only nero 6 !
i burn my dvds and kvcds all the time, some cd datas, mp3 and musics cds.
nero 6 works perfect and i don\'t need other prog to do the jobs!

Thanks Jorel,

I\'ll take your lead and get rid of the gumf I no longer need.
Really happy with Nero, it does the business!
Glad you\'ve had a better experience with newer drive!
