Hello all,

first time here so be gentle with me.

I have 2 Forum rules please read on my hard drive that I have downloaded. They are DVD rips and have been changed into DivX video files and separate episodes.

How do I go about putting them back onto a DVDR for storage?

Each episode is about 350Mb and the total (26 and 22) will fill around 2 DVDs per series.

Thanks,

If you just want to play them in the PC, just create a data DVD and put them in!

If you want to watch them in your DVD player you have to convert them to DVD using this guide:

Thanks for that afonic.

I see you had to edit my post. Obviously I did something wrong there. Be so kind as to tell me and I\'ll make sure not to transgress again.

OK. Your reply to my question seemed to nail the problem as far as I can see, but, when you are creating a DVD project which is not one long file but a dozen or so separate episodes of a series, how exactly do you put them back onto a DVD so that you can pick and choose which one(s) you want to watch?

Thanks again,

What do you mean, if you add the DivX files inside, or when you want to create a DVD playable in your DVD player?

Well, what I would do is just create a data disk..  Doing this you can put at least 10 more files that size onto one disk for storage or like you said using more then one disk will copy more.

Just use your dvd/writing software that came with the computer to do this and create a data disk while the disk is in the dvd/rw drive and just click add.. That\'s it.. Your DONE... Easy  lol

Sorry, I am not being very clear here...

To recap; I have 26 DivX files which will fit onto 2 DVDs. Together they make series 1 of this sci fi program.

Now, if I am going to author (is that correct term?) a DVD to play on a stand alone player, I assume that I will need to deal with each file separately? I take it that you don\'t somehow \'join\' them all up into one long file??

If I am correct in that assumption, when you make the final DVD, do you somehow have to make a \'menu\' so that you can choose which episode you want to watch on playback?

And if so, how please?

Phew...I will learn this if it kills me

Many thanks,

Aha, just had a thought...

I imagine that the original DVD that was ripped had all the episodes together as one long file and the person who re encoded to DivX also cut them up into segments?

So if I joined them back together and re encoded to DVD, I would have to create some sort of \'bookmarks\' or \'chapters\' menu in order to view the files on a choice basis??

Am I getting warm yet???

The anwsers to your question.  Is No it isn\'t possible to do this unless you had the Dvd to which it was made and if so it would be different way needed to be taken to do so.. You have DivX files to which you will need to convert each one to VCD or SVCD format for the standalone.  You shouldn\'t have to join them either.. your player should just play each one as if it\'s a new file loading up to play.  (not sure on this on)

If you can get all these files on to one disk anyway and were able to play them on a standalone, then the quality will just not be there.  It will be better if you just saved them like is as data.  You can play around if you want..  If you had the DVD to which they came from then/well you can make these files your self without putting them into a divX.avi format and just a mepg 1 or 2 format and while doing so make them larger/better quaitly and then burn them onto disks which you will most likely need alot more then just two.  This of course is just my opinion.

Maybe afonic can aid you more with this...

Actually you cannot put all the episodes into 2 DVDs and make them play in your DVD player!

The reason is that a DVD that plays in a standalone is MPEG2 while DivX is MPEG4. MPEG4 is better quality that MPEG2. In a DVD you can put only 3-4 hours of video with good quality.

So what do you want to do?
