Listen, I dont call myself a newbie when it comes to tech. and/or Computers, but when it comes to DVDs and doing anything at all exept geting them at Blockbusters to them, I am NEW!

What the hell is the difference between DVD- and +?
Does that affect me if I have AnyDVD and Nero 6?

Hey, calm down, nobody told you a newbie! Cheesy

DVD-R and DVD+R is basically the same thing, only the companies that support the one format or the other are different.
DVD-R seems to be more compatible with standalone DVD players, while DVD+R seems to have the support of bigger companies.
The usage is the same, just enter the media and burn, you don\'t have the worry. When you buy the media you have made your choice, there are no other settings you need to make.

It\'s actually almost the same thing, except the fact that in this case there is compatibility between DVD-R and DVD+R.

Nevermind, get a dual burner and you\'re OK. I use DVD-R most of the times.

I wondered what was the best for me to get when I was looking at a burner. It was a toss up between DVD-RW and DVD-/+RW for me.

My reasons for picking what I did were based on money, availability of media, cost of media, and compatibility with my burning software and my hardware. My choice ultimately was based on 1 simple fact... Apple used the Pioneer SuperDrive as their internal DVD-RW mechanism, and since they supported it, that is what I went with.

I don\'t think it really matters for the most part, esp if you use a Windoze machine, because the drive will do the trick either way for you.

Just make sure that it can do what you want it to do. Example, if you plan on backing up your HD to DVDs, make sure that say in a year or 2 that the backup will still work in whatever DVD drive you have. Or if you make DVDs to give to friends of game demos you have DLed, it needs to work for them on their respective DVD player or burner. If you make video DVDs, you need to be able to play them in your home player, etc.

I doubt that you could go wrong with a DVD-/+RW drive ultimately. And since they are all priced so well now, the investment isn\'t nearly as important as the intended useage and compatibility.

imho
