I\'m new to this so please bare with me.

I have used the Afonic DVD-Guide for ripping DVD\'s into .AVI\'s.  I have set up the output settings exactly as the Xvid guide said, EXCEPT the 2nd Pass and 2nd Pass settings. Now, when I did this, I got a blocky image, both with Interpolate on and off, btw, so instead of choosing XVid, I chose the latest Divx codec and voila, a perfect start, I only did 2 minutes of films, but it looks great.  Now, from you pro\'s, should I just leave it at this, or is there something I\'m missing? Why do I need to do a 2nd pass? this takes twice the time (my wife is freaking). I have 12 UK DVD\'s I have to burn to VCD before I will be allowed to use my PC\'s UK DVD Player to play NA discs, and yes, I looked for a region hack, and there isn\'t one for my player, so I\'m in a jam.  Please help if you can.

2-pass provide better quality, but if course you can use 1 pass if you want.
Now about the XviD and DivX quality difference, obviously a small change somewhere in the settings caused it.
I don\'t understand the region problem. If you want to use your PC and create VCDs get a region-free firmware (tell me your model) or use a software like DVD43 or AnyDVD.
