Can someone please help me. When i converted what i believe to be a divx file to mpeg - 1 layer ll audio (mp2) using TMPGEnc there was no sound when i played it back using windows media player to try it out. I noticed when i added the file into  \'VIDEO FILE\' in the \'SELECT SOURCE FILE\' part of TMPGEnc that the file did not appear in \'AUDIO FILE\' as it did when i converted a previos divx file. When i clicked the \'BROWSE\' button next to \'AUDIO FILE\' and tried to add the file this way I got an error message stating that \'xxxxxx.avi cannot open or unsupported\'. I right clicked on the file to be converted to bring up its properties and in \'TYPE OF FILE\' it stated \'VIDEO CLIP. I clicked on the \'SUMMARY\' tab and in \'video commpression\' it stated it was \'DIVX CODEC\'. So is this file a divx file and if not what could it be and how can i convert it to mp2 with soundso that i can transfer it onto a dvd disc. I was using the afonic guide for this particular process. Also when i originally downloaded the file it was divided into three folders, CD1, CD2, CD3. I joined the three files together using \'VIRTUAL DUB\' which must mean that they are .avi files ?
Sorry to be so long winded but I\'m trying to give as much info as I can.
Many thanks.

I\'ve been trying to use a guide to convert divx/xvid to dvd that uses virtualdub to extract the audio as a wav file. When i get to the step in virtualdub where you select \'save wav\', I type in a name to save the audio as and when I click on \'save\' it comes up with the message \'no audio decompresser could be found to decompress the source audio format\'. Is this happening because the audio is either of the two formats you suggest ? What do i need to do to correct this. I\'m very new to this kind of thing so please be gentle with me if your\'e able to help. Many thanks.

TMPGEnc cannot handle AC3 audio that well.
Have a look at this guide:

Make sure that you have the codec needed installed. Install both DivX and XviD codecs (deselect the option in XviD install that it will decode all 4 codecs.

Have a look here for something I may be missing:

Gspot tells me in the video stat that i have have two compatible codecs installed, both called \'divx decoder filter\' but there is not one listed for xvid which is what Gspot tells me the video codec of the file is. Where can I get other codecs to try and how do I install them ? :?

To install, just... install!
