Hi everyone,

Does anyone know of any hard drive forums that is free such as technical support?? Something like this forum but this forum is for DVD\'s, Divx and so on. If no one has any forums and u guys could be able to help me with my System Mechanic error that might be due to bad sectors. Please let me know and i will post up the message if someone could help me. Thanx for any replies.

I\'m running Windows XP Pro. I was using System Mechanic Pro 4.0a to defrag my D: drive. It encountered an error. I used Scandisk and Norton Disk Doctor and it showed no problems. I will post my Warning message below.

Warning

System Mechanic encountered a problem while attempting to defragment the current drive: D:, this is usually indicates physical corruption on the disk surface, or other such structural issues. A through Scandisk operation (including disk surface scan) is recommended before attempting to defragment the drive again. For more information on scandisk consult the Windows Documentation.

Have you do a deep scan (scan for bad sectors)?
If you have bad sectors you should experience problems, like a very low speed and a stange noise from the hard drive. Does everything works OK?

yeah everthing should be working ok. Thank god finally got rid of the blaster worm. Got hit with the Sasser worm and got rid of that. I\'m trying to defrag and then backup just in case if i get hit again.. Scandisk does a deep scan?? Boot from Windows 98 startup disk and then go scandisk D:

Would they be deep?? If so i did do it. Thanks for the replies.

Use the WinXP scandisk, it\'s good. If you want to use the other type scandisk /? to see the command you need to type in order to do a deep scan.

Anyway, if it works OK, then you probably have no problem.

Look, do a deep scan with windows scandisk and norton and if you have no bad sectors then there aren\'t any! Simple like that!
