So, I tried to play a ripped dvd in Nero yesterday and it told me I needed a plugin to read between the dvd and mpeg format. I got it, and it plays, but I am wondering exactly what this means. Does it only play as an mpeg, and if so, does this mean it is compressed when it plays? Is the way it appears necessarily the way it is saved or the way it would appear if I were to burn the file onto a dvd? Is the compression only for the sake of playing, or is it permanent? Thanks.

It probably asked you for DVD MPEG2 plug-in.
Actually Nero 6 Demo (even if you install the demo and enter the serial) does not include this plug-in, because of licence problems.
Of course I did not understood the problem very well, so I still don\'t know what it is!

Oh it\'s not a problem, just that the file played back kind of shaky (with the plugin) and I wondered if that was just because of the player or if that is how it will look when I burn it.

You\'ll have to burn it to be sure!
