I\'ve followed the guides step by step yet the finished mpg still has no sound. Tried various settings, my vers of TMPg looks a bit different than the screenshots, its vers 2.5. Virtual dub says I\'ve got mp3 audio. The divx files play great by themselves.

I really dont want to make sep audio and video streams if I can help it. It takes long enough to encode this stuff and its a low priority job. Its for somebody who refuses to play divx files in native format. But I\'d still like to deliver a dvd if possible but not if its gonna tie up my box for 2 hrs per file (there are 26) PLUS more render time for other processes all to find out the sound is outa sync. Is there a quick & dirty way that works....even if its not the absolute best quality?

Please load the file in GSpot and see if it has VBR Mp3 audio.

Gspot give me this*:

0x0055(MP3)ID\'d as MPEG-1 Layer 3

which I take to mean its mp3. Am I right?

Export the audio to WAV using VirtualDub and use this as audio source.

This is the same advise I got from the various guides I read. I\'m sure it would work but....as I said in the OP....I really dont want to get into using multiple programs since this is not a job requiring the highest quality, if it was, I\'d just keep the original files. PLUS...there is a lot of extra time involved ( I have many files to process) and no assurance there will be sync sound at the end.

But my real question is this: why are the programs that are recommended all the time so incapable of doing a simple job on their own? TMPG touts itself (and sells itself) as a stand-alone app that can deliver a finished file. Obviously, it doesnt. So what app will do it?  Maybe, there aren\'t any.
Maybe its some kinda justice: They have announced the subjects I\'m working with will be released as real dvds on 6/1, making my little project moot. But I\'d still like to find out how to do it, for future projects.

I have successfully did the proccess I show in the guide more than 50 times, so yes TMPGEnc is able to do this proccess by each own.
In your situation probably the problem is in your audio. It may be VBR Mp3, or the problem may be something else. Try to export to WAV and see if it works, so that I can think what the problem is.
