:!:  May 11, 2004

Hello folks at Afonic DVD Guides,

I\'m new to this forum group and thought that this might be
a place to get help with answers.

I have a DELL PC ( 4 year old ) Pentiume III and
my OS is Windows\'98 SE.

I need help on my 2 year old Pioneer DVR-104 driver that
burns DVD-R. DVD-RW, CD-RW and CD-R.

I first got the new firmware from Pioneer which
improves DVD playback.  However, it seems that
either the firmware or the ASPI isn\'t allowing the
DVR-104 to TEST or to burns all blanks DVD-R media types.

What\'s surprising is that it does allows to TEST
or burns CD-R!!!

For example I was using the Prassi PrimoDVD 2.0,
using Data job to burn a VIDEO_ST folder onto a blank
media DVD-R. ( My own video project )
However, it brings up an error message saying \"Terminated\"
not able to burn onto a DVD.

I did try different DVD software, like DVD decrypter, that too
shows terminated errors, also.  It indicated that maybe the
problem is the ASPI driver I have, which maybe is effected
by the new firmware?

I looked up on the internet and read some forum groups, and I
noticed that others shared the same problem.
Others showed their respond and suggested to members is to
try Px engines or Nero ASPI that would help to make Pioneer
DVR-104 or any DVD software to burn DVD format onto a DVD-R
blank media.

If you\'re wondering what type of ASPI driver I have in my PC,
it\'s a \"Adaptic\" ASPI, WNASPI.dll made by Adaptic.

Do any of you are fimiular to my problem?  I have never had
this problem before, until just recently, Pioneer advised to
download their new firmware that would play both DVD movies
and your own home made DVDs.   Now this time, it would not
allow to burn all DVD-R media types.

I have e-mailed Pioneer customer tech support and I explained
everything, no respond in helping to solve this problem with my
DVR-104 driver.  It seems that Pioneer didn\'t do much of help.
They probrably know that they created such problemadic with their
firmware drivers?

They gave me a firmware that eliminate the DVR-104 that only
burn all CD-R media types and not DVD-R media types.

I hope you all understand clearly my problem

I\'m asking you all, are you fimiular to this sitation?
Have you experienced this problem?
If you  do know the solution on how I can make my Pioneer
DVR-104 to burn DVD-R, it would be great to know!!

Pioneer wanted me to send them my DVR-104 for them to
make adjustments or so.  I wouldn\'t.

Hopes you all could help with suggestions.  Cheesy

Thank you for taking the time to read my inquiry.

Regards,
Eugene

OK try out this ASPI layer:

http://www.dvd-guides.com/files/forceaspi17.zip

and then this firmware (it\'s a region free that is reported to work fine):
http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/a04_131.zip

Tell me if it worked out!

Smiley  Hi,  thank you for your e-mail respond with
list of downloads.

# 1. I downloaded the ForceASPI  Smiley

Shocked   However, it has bunch of files instead of a
single extention file.  Can you make one or
is there a single full extention file so that
would do the installation?  Rather seeing
bunch of BAT files and JPEG photos.
One of the JPEG photo I noticed shows that
it works on Windows\'95.  Does ForceASPI
works on Windows\'98 SE??

# 2. About the Pioneer firmware reversion 1.31

Will that improve DVD playback, including the ones
that I have copied DVD movies?  And will it burns
DVD-R 1X or 2X?  Are saying that the firmware 1.31
is modified for region free?  Hope my DVR-104 can
play region 1 DVD movies.

:?:  ( I was aware that if people change region settings on
their DVD recordable driver 5 times, they\'ll never change
it back again.  Maybe I heard it when using a software or so? )

I gues I didn\'t tell you what reversion firmware that
Pioneer electronics gave me.   It\'s firmware reversion
1.41 for Pioneer A04 and 104.  That\'s the one that
wouldn\'t TEST or record DVD-R 1X and 2X.

Wish someone out there could modify the firmware
reversion 1.41. Sad

Hope all this helps before I proceed.  Smiley

Thanks,

Just run KILLASPI.BAT first and then INSTASPI.BAT

About the firmware, I suggest you try this one, you don\'t have to lose anything, since your DVD burner does not work right now!

Smiley  Hi again,

I just downloaded the Region free firmware 1.31,

:? there\'s no firmware extention, except the
UPGDVD.EXE.  Is that the extention to execute?

The R4100103.131 is Microsoft icon alone.

And there\'s a REFINQ.DAT icon.

What should I click on for this region free firmware?

Thanks,  Smiley

Sad  Hi, about the ASPI layer, I noticed when I open
the DVD decrypter, is listed with a red circle with an
white \"X\" on it stated that \"the ASPI is detected\".

What does this mean?  Is this isn\'t the right ASPI layer?
If so, how do I uninstall it an order for the ASPI NOT
to be detected so that I could use DVD decrypter?

My ASPI is an WNASPI32.dll

What should I do next?  Looks like DVD decrypter
doesn\'t like the ForceASPI layer?  Sad

Hope all this help ASAP.

Thanks,
Eugene

Try using this ASPI layer:
http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/aspi32v4.60.zip

Try to flash using this:

Smiley Hi, could you tell me what would these to
fiels woud do to my Pioneer 104 that you suggested?

Remember when I went to open DVD decrypter,
I didn\'t explain in detai of what it said about the
\"ASPI components\".

It shows in the LOG with a red circule with an white X
on it, stated:

DVD Decrypter LOG:

 X - \"23:24:19 Reason: Msmatched ASPI components is detected\".

Would the 2 files that you suggested help?

Should I first delete \"ForceASPI\" files and order to
use the ones that you suggested?

Hope everythings explain clearly before I proceed.

Thanks,
Eugene

Hi,   Smiley

 :?:

# 1. about the ASPI layer, I looked at it and noticed
that it\'s for Windows\'95 and Windows\'NT?  :?

Is there one for Windows\'98 SE?
I have Windows\'98 SE.  :?:

If it is for Windows\'98 SE, which of the Extention
files do I click on?

I didn\'t tell you in details when I do open DVD decrypter.
it listed with a red circle with an
white \"X\" on it stated that \"the ASPI is detected\".

What does this mean? Is this isn\'t the right ASPI layer?
If so, how do I uninstall it an order for the ASPI NOT

My ASPI is an WNASPI32.dll

What should I do next? Looks like DVD decrypter
doesn\'t like the ForceASPI layer?

 :?:

# 2. About Pioneer RPC 1 for my DVR-104, which of
the extention flies do I click on, also?

I downloaded both the ASLPI Layers and Pioneer DVD-ROM RPC,
butn each has bunch of extention files and which ones to click on
for each programer  :?:

Hope all this helps clearly and understand.

Thanks,
Eugene

First of all please do not repeat yourself in every post it get very annoying!!

Now about the ASPI, the Win95 works for 98SE too. Have you followed the steps I told you (run the killaspi.bat first and then instaspi.bat ?)? DVD Decrypter works fine with ForceASPI as I use it successfully.

About the firmware just use the Pioneer utility to flash your drive.
