Hope I am posting this in the right forum.

I am buying a Dell Inspiron 8600 with a 4x CD/DVD burner (DVD+RW/+R).  This comes packaged with \"Sonic RecordNow and MyDVD LE\".  For an extra $50, I have the option of purchasing the \"enhanced\" software for the burner: \"Sonic RecordNow! and MyDVD Deluxe\".  This seems like a reasonable price, but this will be my first DVD burner, so I am totally unfamiliar with what software is decent. $50 is alot if Sonic is inadequate.

Would you recommend I buy the $50 upgraded software, or will the software that comes with the burner be sufficient to get me started (will it be good enough to burn DVDs from my video camera, backup a few of my DVD movies, etc)?

Thank you in advance for any advise.

The $50 are good for what you get, especially for MyDVD Deluxe which is an amazing software. If I where you I\'d go with the standard one and update later, is this possible?

Note that the best DVD burning software is Nero and many freeware programs, like DVD Shrink are the best copying software.

Thank you for the quick response!

I can update later...but not for that price.  As a matter of fact, with the current 15% off software too, the two software upgrades would actually only cost me $43.

But despite the low cost, if Shrink is freeware, would it be better to go with the standard and get the freeware?  Let me point out though that I am a novice and want the easiest, most user friendly DVD burn software I can find.  Home movie creation and movie backups (to use in the dorm) are what I will be using my burner for.

Thanks

DVD Shrink is a dvd copy program, MyDVD is an authoring program. If you plan to turn DV tapes into DVDs (or anything similar) get the expensive version, if you just plan to back-up your DVDs you don\'t need to.

Don\'t buy MyDVD.I got it with my DVD+-RW and its a buggy ass app.Thankfully I did not pay for it.If I were you,you should just use a freewere app.Or get TEMPnc off the internet somewere.
