Hello.

I was wondering what is the main differences between having 1 pass versus 2 passes when using DIVx

File size seems about the same and the only difference i can see is a deeper tone of color compared to 1 pass. Is this the only difference or is there more?

Thank you.

1-pass takes less time, while 2-pass creates an output file of better quality.

Sometimes you may not notice it, but for files with low bitrate and / or a lot of action the difference is big.

Thank you for your reply afonic.

Like to check one more thing, i am using Divx 5.1.1 (free version). when setting the 1st and 2nd pass settings, i dont seem to be able to increase/decrease the performance/quality tab because it is greyed out. It is stuck at standard. Is this because it is the free version?

I have included a screenshot.

Thanks again  Smiley

You\'re right it is because it is the free version. Don\'t mind though as the Slow and Slowest modes are so slow that you cannot use them even if they offer superior quality (we are talking about 8-10fps).

Hmmm
i shouldnt have uninstall Divx 5.0.5 (free version) at least they still gave the option for best quality.  Sad

I did try xvid before, but it seems to have video / audio synchronisation problems thats how i switch to divx. Perhaps i should give it a try again..

Thanks again for the info!  Smiley

You\'re welcome. Yes, I still think 5.0.5 is better than 5.1.1.

DivX new versions really suck, I still use 4.12!
