Hi Afonic, In your life that u have been an Administrator u probably never had a member ask this questions before but i\'m going to ask it.

Laser Discs about 20 years ago or more. How do i convert my VCD\'s/SVCD\'s/Divx/DVD\'s and so on to Laser Discs?? Is it possible?? Do i need a Laser Disc Burner?? If so, do they make them used?? I hardly doubt i can find an new Laser Disc Burner if they make them. Laser Disc Players i could probably find a used one. Can u give me some guides on this conversion?? This is the first forum i\'m making this topic. And i don\'t know why i want a Laster Disc or a Laser Disc Player and a Laser Disc Burner. Can i just use my CD-ROM Burner after converting?? Thanx Afonic and everyone.

Your questions is not the problem but I have one tiny question:

WHAT THE HELL DO YOU NEED LASERDISC FOR?  Cheesy

Don\'t your VCDs work OK with your DVD player?

I don\'t know anything about LaserDisc, it is almost a dead format.
Does it have a practical meaning to you or you just want to try it out?

I don\'t think the hardware supports any other but next to none formats.  I nevered played with a laser disk before so I\'m not much help.

Did find this for you:
http://www.dgp.toronto.edu/people/radek/lvr/lvrdump.html

Doesn\'t tell you much..  You can do www.google.com search on this to find more info.

In response to the original question:

You can not make LaserDiscs.

Primary reason: LaserDiscs were never intented to be a recordable medium.  They are/were strictly read only.

Why:

LaserDiscs (father of the modern day CD, grandfather to the DVD), are made up of two acryllic and metal disks glued together back to back.

In order to prevent degredation due to bacteria growth, the glueing process required clean rooms, equivalent to that of microchip manufacturing plants.

LaserDiscs contain two forms of information, digital AND analog.  The video on LaserDiscs is analog made up of hills and valleys of varying height and distances, the result is a composite signal, similar to broadcast and cable TV.  The audio on laserdiscs is digital (and analog, sometimes), exactly like that found on audio CD\'s to this very day; made up of uniform pits which stand for 1\'s and 0\'s.

In factory\'s, laserdiscs like mass produced CD\'s are pressed not burned.  This means a gigantic machine stomps out every single disc, like a license plate, or a coin.

In case you did not realize, LD\'s are big, 12 inches to be exact (although the standard does allow for 8 inch and 5inch discs).  You cant fit a LD into your CD Burner!  Even if you could, the mechanics of cd and dvd burners only allow for 1\'s and 0\'s, not analog hills and valleys.

Towards the latter part of LD\'s life, there were high-end consumer (professional) laserdisc recording machines, which were able to record special format laserdiscs (like current cd-rs) with lasers.  But these laserdiscs were much like DVD-RAM, only playable in the machine you recorded in, because of the protective cartridge surrounding the disk.

I think thats enough information to satisfy your query.
