Ok, i just bought a Benq DW822A Plus. Also have TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress and Nero 6.0.0.23

I was using the TMPGEnc Xpress to compile a DVD with assorted files formats (AVI, DIVX, XVID, Mpeg). I wanted to make a DVD that could be watched on a player.

The question is: its a whole season of Friends and its 8 hours long. can that be squeezed into one DVD? Can i like reduce the quality or something to make it fit?

I\'m also not very sure whats the difference between the different aspect ratios and difference between PAL and NTSC. Does aspect ratio affect the file size?

If not, then i have to burn it with the normal (AVI, DIVX, XVID, Mpeg) formats and watch it from my computer .

Any ideas or software i need? Thanx in advance!

No, you cannot fit THAT much into a DVD, the quality is going to be very low.

I suggest you use 2 discs, 4 hours each or XviD.

You can\'t sqeeze hours. What I said is that the biggest length that a DVD can handle is about 4hours with the standard MPEG2 encoding and resolution and maybe 6hours with lower resolution and re-encoding with TMPGEnc (not something I\'ll suggest).

So I suggest you use 2 discs, or the quality is going to be really poor.

You cannot watch them with a DVD player, only with a PC.

oic. hmmm. how about those movies that span 3 hours long like lord of the rings? you actually have to rip the movie from the original DVD, encode it to be 4.7 GB long, and then burn it onto your own DVD ROM?

Can these be watch on a DV Player?

Yeah, what I am telling you is that if you create an 8hours long DVD the picture quality will suck!

If you want to put 4 hours into 1 DVD follow one of these guides:

and i suggest you are gonna start reading some info about the whole movie stuff like aspect ratio\'s and pal/ntsc formats and stuff.

looking at your questions u dont know much about this all.. sqeezing hours and 4.7gb long movies...  u can\'t sqeeze hours and movies aren\'t gb\'s long Tongue

its not really that easy to author a dvd yourself from a avi or an mpg file, and its really not easy to put multiple movies on 1 dvd if you don\'t know what your doing (even if u do its hard to do)

but i sugest u try dvd lab pro, u can put multiple movies on 1 dvd in there original size but you also need to know what you are doing becouse it will nag about lots of things if they are wrong with the movie. like formats, hz, pal/ntsc etc.

u can do it, and the quality wont suck toooo bad, (fine for friends or other shows that are normally seen on fuzzy TV sets anyway)

Look into TMPGENC 3.0 Express, it lets you squeez up to 9 hrs onto 1 dvd. Quality be reduced for sure, but its still perfectly fine compared to watching friends on tv.

If you encode to VCD specifications* you could include several hours of footage on a DVD.  As stated earlier, it will not be of the highest quality.  You can use mpeg1 video to create a DVD.  You would be creating a DVD-VCD.  *The audio does need to be 48 khz not 44 khz (which is for vcd).

Edit:  Wow, I didn't realize how long ago this thread had started.  Sorry for bringing it back up.

...
Suggest U research "kvcd".
When U Google "kvcd" U will find many results.
U will find that it is possible to put up to 10 hours of video on one 4.7GB DVD
and up to 3 hours on one 80 min. CD and will play on a DVD player.
If U are still interested in what PAL and NTSC are, Google "pal ntsc".
Good Luck,
JimS
